There is absolutely no reason to dig through coal dust / warpstone...
Seriously... If you don't want your miners to die, just ignore warpstone/coaldust...
You can still mine normal coal without any danger.

I just usually mine through, because I feel it's fun to kill tons of miners...

I have no problem with black lung, I only have a problem with the speed in which it kills my dwarfs.
I like having a few surprises in mining but this "instant death" is a bit too fast.

Considering that Meph said that it should take about a year for a dwarf to die, I think it is a bug.

i agree. about the bug issue anyway, i had 5 miners going about digging out my new fortress, 3 of them hit coal dust and died within seconds, digging about 30 or so more blocks a piece, i do run fastdwarf during initial digging and setting up, but if black lung should take a year according to meph, it should give me time to do something about it at least, not the whole you struck coal dust, boom dead miners

i've added this to the SWP issue tracker, but i'm guessing that what's happening is CE_IMPAIR_FUNCTION on both lungs is just causing them to suffocate. i think in previous versions it was necrosis, and at some point was changed to impair the lungs instead?

Edit: the original mod indicates that the syndrome can amplify itself if it's contracted multiple times. masterwork currently has a much higher severity than the original, which is probably causing the instant suffocation (syndrome @ 250 severity contracted 4 times = 1000 severity = instant suffocation)

So at last, this will uncover the true behind the instant suffocation from black lung, when Mep says should be no that deadly.

yeah i really think it's as the original mod's author describes: the syndrome ends up being applied multiple times, which in turn speeds up the symptoms, resulting in near instantaneous suffocation.
