So I bought Red Faction Guerilla and...
« on: March 06, 2014, 07:14:26 am »

It turns out I needed GFWL to even run the thing.  ::)

Yeah, not touching with this with a 10-foot pole. That cancer is dead and should stay dead.

Is there a patch or some way to get around this?

I'll dedicate the next building that falls to you.

Not sure what the thought process was there... "Hey, people love our open world, demolition on mars simulator, let's make it an on-rail shooter with minor destructible terrain pieces!"

Well, it had some demolitions. I think I got it in a humble bundle, but yeah. It's not a game to get. I stuck Guerrilla's mode at easy in order to spend more time demolishing buildings and less time mook shooting, but Armageddon's mooks have way too much hitpoints even on easy for that. Plus the field of view felt very restricted for whatever reason. Maybe Guerrilla was just as bad there, but it didn't feel so bad there, prolly due to it being more open.

Also, go ahead and start a new game, then whack your brother with that hammer.

They wanted to go back to Red Faction 1, I think. Which was exactly like that.

Also, on the GFWL thing, you can also just log in with an offline account and play with no problems.

I personally think it was a funding thing.

I bought it as well, and GFWL definitely seems a lot more tame currently than it used to be. It took about 15-20 seconds to set it to an offline account, never saw it again. I remember how annoying it used to be, but really, it isn't relevant here.

Yah, it was released at the tail end of THQ's existence. Budgets were hella tight I'm sure.

It had some enjoyable stuff though, even if the Linear structure was not as enjoyable they made some really neat weapons.
