The highest point is the watchtower. You race past the throng and claw up the ramp, the wail of the horn cutting off. The Aven rises almost in tandem, wing beats blowing sweat from your brow. Passing by the herald who pleads for your aid as he piles wood atop the brazier of ae signal fire, you stare out past the crumpled remnants of a throng of caravans and broken men strewn against the walls, past the honor-struck fool dueling, to a memory. The memory grins at you, shears through the hero, and rears up on wings made for you. Thud goes the aven, without a finger being laid. You had thought that sight, real or imagined, glimpsed through bleak eyes, would never leave you. You were right. The herald flees and the light dies with him.

A twist of the neck reveals one intent face aloof from despair, and the silhouette of the druid as a key player for being farthest from it. The kneeling priest reaches for a warhammer, still chanting. The Aven lies before him, ruined wards humming, his armour shaking. You cast a torch into the flames, fearful of looking beyond them.

Attempt to draw power towards me, to prepare for a spell if I'm able, and see if I have anything on my person. Watch the strange figure.

You bounce off the soft grass, winded and bruised, possessions perhaps still within reach. You hear snarled words and can feel a long-gone sun

You pull your Izzet branded 'manalyser' out of your fanny-pack. The needle on it's face jitters wildly before settling in it's natural state. Nil. Besides the normal background signal there can't be a leyline for miles. Flipping it's lid down, you shove it back into your pack. Granted the seer has no possession of a signet, there shouldn't be too much to worry about.

Swooping down for the pouch, you see the tide wash it away as the merfolk whirls, before your vision is briefly obscured by rough darkness. Something shifts, and revealed is the creaking fist adjusting it's grip around you and swinging you before the fin-less wonder. A booming voice inquires "Could you not merely ask? All healers need patients, much as you question the reverse." The knobbly teak enveloping you tightens slightly.
