Dwarf race had pets "concubine" in the masterwork 3.  Concubines could not work in the workshops but could carry objects.

I want to teach mechanical animals carry objects. Is that possible?

No.  The concubines were a caste of dwarf, the mechanical animals are a different species so they won't carry objects.

to be fair they counted AS pets, were a caste, could be slaughtered, and therapist could assign them jobs. i used them before startdwarf.. hehe just sad they were removed instead of renamed.

You need to put it through twice to get the metal out.  First process it to pure ore, then again to make it into bars.
Although...I suppose I could just make it go straight to bars in the first place.

The arc furnace cannot currently make alloys.
There was a bug with melting items, I just fixed it (version 0.77.2).  It does not require a new worldgen.

I spend testing arc furnace. This machine does not want to melt the ammunition. Furniture, weapons, armor, finished good and ore is melted. But when you try to melt ammunition machine stops

I'll check it out.

EDIT: Fixed it.  Note that small items such as ammo, when melted in the arc furnace, will be completely destroyed, since the arc furnace does not save up melted items.

IndigoFenix: Even if hauler-pets dont work, you could make a pet-caste of gnomes, which go into the direction of heavily altered clockborg without free will. Than again, you said you dont really like them anymore, and it wouldnt fit the theme that well.

But intelligent pets with natural fishing skill do labor. Check out my fisher gremlins. Maybe you can make a fishing machine/automaton. Maybe immobile, and gnomes have to pasture it on a dishing zone? should work with raw modding only, no dfack needed. :)
