The Single Axe Challonge - A Durpy Video Series
« on: March 03, 2014, 07:34:01 pm »

A durpy video series in which I proceed to face-roll through evil embarks, trying to survive with only a copper battle axe.  :o Practice makes perfect.

Here's the first in the series:

Dwarf Fortress: Single Axe Challonge

Part 1 - I Have Misplaced My Evil Zone

Part 2 - This Whole Fort is Filled with Irony

Part 3 - Time to Blew a Drink!

Part 4 -Room Full of FOOD and GARBAGE

Part 5 - Nooo the Rattlesnake!

Part 6 - GLUMPRONG!

Part 7 - All the Clouds!

More will be added with time. Comments welcome. Suggestions will be listened to, (may be) adhered to. Assume the durpiest of mindsets.  :D

Fairawen's Arrowwine errors force renal upheaval on dwarfs:  Foggy notions blamed.

Feels strange that your militia did not become thrall thing, they tend to when battling thralls.

If they were turned into thralls by a Dust, then that will remain as a contaminant to infect others via wounds, but Fog does not appear to leave contaminants behind.

You guys are awesome. Thanks so much for the support. I'm hoping to keep the funnies coming. Part 2 is now up! I'm posting it in this message, but I'll add it to the first post as well.

Part 2 - This Whole Fort is Filled with Irony

Note - Hans is correct about dust vs. fog. Dust will linger on those who get thrall-ified, while fog doesn't. In my case, then, I'm rather lucky. :D

Hmm... I notice you have spots of clay scattered about. It would be cool to have walls and floors made out of clay boulders - they're not as fancy, but they're pretty economical.

Of course, that leaves the question of where to find a fire-safe material to build a kiln.

A kiln isn't needed for clay boulders, they are harvested straight from the ground. I guess bricks were what you meant.

Pretty sure one needs a kiln to issue the "collect clay" order, though.

Yeah but collect clay does not consume fuel, so a normal (non-magma) kiln should be fine.  I think you can build a kiln out of almost anything, especially if you never "fire it up".

By the way, I agree: awesome videos Fairawen, the commentary on screen and spoken are both fantastic!

I will run the experiment to completion anyway, however. Even if the only reason why there is a punctured equilibrium in the fortress is because I have been brutally butchering babies
EDIT: I just remembered that dwarves can't equip halberds. That might explain why the squads that use them always die.

Nopes. You need to use fire/magma-safe material for any building that may be used as a fiery place.

I learned this the hard way on an aquifer-pierce challenge that you I can't build surface-walls out of clay until you've reached stone.

As for the video, I would recommend that you butcher your livestock ASAP since they are massive liabilities to your safety, and you'll need leather to make quivers for any marksdwarves you have planned.  Also, I'm pretty sure that you can use Bridges as a material-efficient roof to get some cover sooner without having to wait for so many logs.

That said, I'm pretty sure that the purpose of this video series is NOT to showcase optimal play, so go ahead and just do whatever.

Little bit of this, little bit of that. :P Butchering the livestock will happen soon. I do these videos in a bit of a bulk recording, so I'll need to wait until I catch up with my current stuff. I was also expecting to die way before this, otherwise the bridge idea would've been great. :P

(Yeah... this isn't the best place for optimal fort building, but what can ya do...)  ;D
