Do some studies of those things. Notice how they mostly appear as noise, you can't really tell apart the specific grains or pebbles. If you squint your eyes it will appear as a uniform surface for the most part, with a single, or several values, creating the illusion that there's gravel there, getting the brain to fill in the blanks.

If you're working digitally you can easily use a brush of some sort and the right colours and values to make it feel right. Working with traditional media is a bit harder and time consuming but the general idea is the same, you try and get it to feel right.

If you need brushes you can find a bunch of them here: http://digitalbrushes.tumblr.com/

Most of them are PS but there are some for Gimp too (and I think you can get the PS ones to work with some fiddling).

Edit:

And here's mine, the two-point one while fun was done kinda half-assedly, will probably try and do something more interesting tommorrow.

Thanks for link to the brushes Jopax, I downloaded A couple today. I'll maybe try and incorporate some of them in to the 3-point piece.

This some sort of city scenery in an oddly shaped 3 point perspective.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Sorta reminds me of the cover art for a simcity game .

That's a pretty funky perspective. Tho it's wierd that some of the buildings don't really follow it :P

The thing with doing multiple point perspectives (and I should have said this earlier, sorry) is that if you're drawing cubes or what have you, stuff that has sides at straight angles you need your vanishing points to be atleast in the range of a 90 degree angle.

That is, if you're drawing a cube in two-point and you set your vanishing points at 30 or 120 degrees apart, it's going to look wierd, like if you used a fish-eye lens. Getting it in the general area (some 5-10 degrees of error is perfectly fine and gives some charachter to the object) should make it much more believable.

Tho I do like the sim city feel, looks pretty much like a barebones cover of the game.

Been a while since I did perspective.

I kind of wanted to do something with a DF vibe so I drew an unfinished cave store front

The outline for my 3-point perspective piece. I intend to finish it before moving on to the other pieces, or at least begin to finish it.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

@Somebody: very nicely done on both of those, especially the 2-point perspective piece!

EDIT:

a little more work because I don't sleep these days:

This is a nuisance and I'm having trouble working on it for more than a few minutes at a time. May need to scrap it and just go with something simpler.

Is it a castle? My recommendation is this, block it out first. Literally a giant cube, then start subtracting parts until it looks how you want it. Treat it like you're carving a statue.

God, I hate 3-point perspective... Guess that's where the flavor is.

So here I am with a few exercises.

Spoiler: One Point Perspective (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Two Point Perspective (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: What's this? (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Scene (click to show/hide)

Right now I don't have item #4 and I don't think #1 stands in, so I'll finish the exercise later in the afternoon.
