Loot Jakme. He might have some information or valuables on him.
"So... how many times do you guys think he's pulled this 'heroes of the prophecy' stunt? Those three seem to have decided to join him rather than die like all the rest of his 'heroes'. Funny how easy this was, though; it doesn't seem possible that they could have killed us, even though this has all happened before... Any chance the prophecy is true for us?"
Well, he had been driven insane, but it appears that he cracked his head on a conveniently placed pointy rock when he fell down. His previously bright blue eyes are lifeless and dull. You decide that he is, indeed, dead.
There is an ornately worked spellbook in a sack on his back and a curved dagger with a ruby set in its hilt tucked into his belt. The dagger could probably go for some cash (and for some reason, a voice in the back of your head tells you that it's "+2", whatever that is supposed to mean) and the spellbook probably has some information in it.
Flipping through the book reveals a page that contains that entire crappy series of haiku poems he'd recited and presented as a prophecy, with a scribbled note: "USE TO LURE IDIOTS TO TEMPLE TO KILL".
Another page presents a small ritual for summoning (admittedly weakened) trolls that is written so sloppily, there is no hope of copying it and keeping all its meaning. Another hastily scribbled spell seems to be a set of instructions on a simple illusion spell, presumably used to summon that "specter" from before. There are also directions to the building you're in right now, along with hastily written notes on how to change the images throughout the temple; you'd bet a few gold pieces that the images of yourselves are completely gone now. It would also appear that the magic items he had given you before were faulty, but on purpose. David's helmet was actually one of reverse alignment; Rhogar's crown was enchanted to make him seem annoying and make him
less diplomatic; Cromwell's boots actually worked, but they also look so ridiculous that they reduced his own diplomacy skills as well. Everybody else's items did absolutely nothing. The items you have now, however, are real.
Your insight tells you that this was, indeed, all a very elaborate and complicated setup.
