Open the door, be prepared for nastiness on the other side!

David shrugs. It was worth a try.
Grab it with Telekinesis.
"And now you are relieved, Sir Knight."

Look down again. Is there any light at any point down the hole? Are there any climbable objects on the way down? Failing that, are the walls suitable for knife climbing? If I can tell, what was the monster's reaction to having a gelatinous cube dropped on it?

Keyleth, you hit the switch, revealing a compartment containiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing

A small, bejeweled headband.

Sweet, loot. Taking it?

David grabs the sword. No traps are activated by taking it, so David takes the sword physically after retrieving it, and in a flash of poetic cliches, bursts alight with red fire. The sword, not David.

Perrin looks down. The walls down are slick and smooth. The monster appears to have been quieted down by your 10 kids' father.

Also, as you asked on the OOC thread, the ledge is about five inches wide and ten feet wall-to-wall. This will be tough.

"Hey! How much rope do you guys have? There's a really deep pit in this room, and it looks valuable."

Keyleth takes the headband, but does not put it on. She will ask a more magically-inclined companion to examine it later.

Thank you for the rope. I will probably be able to return it.

Tie the two ropes together firmly, and then put together a slip knot I can use to lower myself. Then put together a harness at one end that loops under my arms. Finally, look for a pillar, several sconces, or David in the vicinity of my door.

You discover that there is a beautifully crafted sconce on the wall. You tie your rope to it.

You're sure you want to go down? (Y/N)

Probably, but first I'll charge across the room until the rope goes taut. If it breaks the sconce, I'll wait for more people to complete their rooms.

You charge across the room, but suddenly the sconce is ripped out of the wall. Your trajectory causes it to fall in the pit, and it drags you along.

Anyway, you land on the floor, taking eight damage due to a lucky fall-slowing in this forty-two foot deep pit. You land on top of your jelly friend, who appears to have fallen on top of and digested a baby dragon, judging by the semi-rotten skeleton inside.

The walls have spikes on them and start moving together, but apparently whatever kind of crazy magic that makes them work is partly rusted or something, because the walls screech to a halt.

((Wait! I meant the room with many doors, not the room with a five inch ledge! I am technically still alive, though, so if you rule against me, I might survive. Did I fall!?! (Y/N)))

Anyway, you land on the floor OF THE PIT I TOTALLY SAID THIS LAST TIME, taking eight damage due to a lucky fall-slowing in this forty-two foot deep pit. You land on top of your jelly friend, who appears to have fallen on top of and digested a baby dragon, judging by the semi-rotten skeleton inside.

FTFM

((I know, unfortunately an unseen luck roll caused you to rip the sconce out of the wall as you ran; the sconce fell in the pit and dragged you down with it.))

David is testing the sword's balance, trying to determine it's proficiency bonus, when he hears some strange noises from Perrin's door. He holds his sword over the pit, trying to cast some light down.
"Shall I come down and get you, Perrin?"

((I'm assuming that's a question of sword class; for all intents and purposes, it is a longsword.))

((Well, yes, but weapons in 4e also get a bonus to attack rolls called Proficiency, but that's answered my questions for now.))
