You still have to Study objects you make or collect, but it isn't a time-game anymore.  And with the server reset, the wilderness is still pretty barren, so the risk of PVP is at a minimum at the moment.

I jumped back in yesterday.

I'd give this a shot if we were getting a group together, and someone was willing to give me some instruction.
I haven't had much luck with games like H&H in the past.

I'd like to say that just the gluttony changes have made this leagues more playable.

I have no idea how Gluttony is supposed to work to begin with. xD I'm actually more annoyed with how big of a hit I take from eatting mushrooms. I cannot wait until I'm able to start actually farming.

I just got carpentry, but I'm still spending most of my time wandering around trying to forage for foods.  I know that getting the Flowers and Berries skill will help greatly there, but its just taking forever to get up to the level to get it.

Brief gluttony explanation, then! :D

If you click the little forks below your bars it'll activate gluttony mode. In that mode, you can eat whatever you want, it won't give back any biles, but it will fill up a corresponding bar irregardless. If you mouse over a food it'll tell you how much it'll fill up. So like, the upper right bar is blood, the lower left bar is yellow bile, etc.

When this bar hits the top in gluttony mode, you get an extra max point in that bile. However, if you eat a lot of the same foods (a lot of berries, for instance), effectiveness drops off. This isn't such a big deal early on (and good thing too, about all you get is berries at that point), but I expect it'll be a big deal later on.

Biles are, for reference, Phlegm, which is your stamina, blood, which is your HP, Yellow Bile, which is your "combat" meter (the higher your current yellow bile is the more damage you do and the less damage you take), annnnd black bile which you spend to study things and start building buildings. Black bile also effects the amount of inspiration you get back over time. They're all very important! And I think like in haven and hearth, the gluttony meters all use the highest value for a bile you have. So if you grind up yellow bile, the rest of your biles are going to be that much harder to raise.

The more you eat during gluttony (irregardless of whether a bar goes up or not), the longer it'll be before you can activate gluttony again.

You can sorta tell what will give what by mousing over outside of gluttony mode, but it's a terrible interface and I regularly forget how to translate it. Early on, mousing over foods should suffice.

Also, you shouldn't be eating raw toadstools. Use chestnuts instead (I assume you're in a forest since you have toadstools). They have 2 charges, so they're better travel food, and they don't poison you. Sure, you need to roast them, but you should be carrying a lit torch at all times anyway. You can refill it with woodchips as you go, and it won't drain while you're logged off so you can keep the fire going while you sleep. Tinder drills are evil and should be avoided when possible, I personally have only lit a fire on the first day of the new world and I've been keeping it going ever since.

As for raising humour, my protip is to use fish - I went to like 25 humors virtually on fish alone.. Rods kinda suck at low frontier and wilderness level, but traps work like a charm. You can fill a trap with cheap stuff like woodchips, and a couple of hours later pick up some fish if the spot where you set the trap is any good. 12 fibre looks a bit steep to a newbie, but it's well worth it as long as your trap doesn't get stolen on day one. To avoid that either claim it or put it at the end of a dead end river, to avoid boaters spotting it.

I gave up on H&H after the third time my base got destroyed by Grief Mc Nolife.

Salem LOOKS interesting, and im a sucker for building stuff, settlements in particular. How long does it take to set up your own cabin in the woods, or ebtter yet, a simple Base to call your own? It went very quickly in H&H and its one of the major motivations that keeps me going, just seeing your home get bigger.

It used to be horribly slow because you had to flatten land before building anything, but now they've made most of the map naturally flat so it goes pretty fast. I'd say it's about the same as Haven. The difference is that in Salem you use silver coins instead of XP like in H&H, which is slower. You can get enough in 2-3 days if you do a lot of cricket hunting, but that gets boring after a while. With 20min a day on average spent grinding crickets I'm managing to expand my claim at a fast enough pace to have room for everything I want to build, though. Sure, it'll be a while before I get to the intended final size, but I don't care.

Hm, I loved H&H and I would totally jump into this if we had a B12 settlement going.

I'd love to have a bunch of B12 people, but in my experience it always turns out worse than herding cats. Neighbours would be cool, though, and if a couple of you decide to live together that's fine, I just won't be joining you. I'll help out with advice and some items, too, but not silver, you can go grind your own damn crickets :P

Anyway, if anyone wants to spawn near me PM me your HS here and I'll contact you in game. Don't use the wilderness guide before this unless you'd like to walk here or make a new character (the latter probably being easier). Escaped lunatics not welcome.

Well, I don't know what I'm doing even worse than when I started playing H&H.
I managed to... make a pile of wood smoke? No real fire.
I studied some rocks and chestnuts.
Yeah, this is gonna be interesting.

EDIT: I PM'd you a new chars HS, DJ.

This man knows what's going on.  The problem with B12 is that everyone is a leader.  As soon as you get people onto a plot of land, every single one of them demands their own, personal plot of land and keep track of their own resources and not share.  This has happened in EVERY SINGLE GAME I've played with Bay12, from HnH to World of Tanks.

Because of this, I realize the futility of trying to keep everyone under one flag.  I suggest that instead, we all become 'neighbors near each other' and actively work to trade resources with others.  There can be a communal gathering and resource stockpile, but it should be assumed that anything donated into it will be consumed ruthlessly.

Now as it stands, I haven't played Salem, but am willing to become a farmer/crafter and occupy the communal stockpile position.  If it's anything like HnH, then food comes in massive abundance once you start farming, so I wouldn't mind pushing food resources into a communal pantry as I skill up.

The only question now, is where to settle.  If DJ is alright with having a dozen 'closely related neighbors' then we could try to hop in at the same spot and try to spread out a little.
