Copybash mode engaged. The other threads seem fun. Why not make another?

Dah Rules
1. The idea is to create a setting. (For a story.)
2. One post at a time. That means one idea at a time.
3. Wait at least three or four posts before posting again. No leapfrogging!
4. You cannot contradict someone else, and you may not post anything that is entirely asinine.
5. No "OOC" WHATSOEVER so no one needs to pick through posts if they only want to read about the world. There will be a separate thread for commentary.

OOC Thread

---

Theme
Science fiction! The setting stretches beyond building just the one world and to the entire universe.

Post Zero
The homeworld is inhabited by humans, which is the only intelligent race on their planet. They're the dominant species and capable of space travel.

A mysterious alien race lives on a planet known as Sram, and are competing against the humans for the colonization of the solar system.

"The solar system" being the one the humans only recently colonized. They had no idea that somebody else was arriving at the same time.

The Yellow Snake Corporation has facilities on nearby galaxies, but most humans are not aware of their existence.

There are giant space lobsters that live in certain asteroid belts and photosynthesize. They have a tightly sealed layer of rubbery material under their shells to allow them to live in a vacuum. The place they originally evolved is unknown.

Ok that's too silly uh...  I'll wait for more things to build off of before I jump in.

Mankind has advanced technology beyond mere space travel, although that has been invented -

Humans are enjoying their "Golden Age" of science and space exploration, creating cybernetics and bionic enhancements, as well as form fitting suits with protective shielding and self-powered solar units, as well as vacuum stable. At the peak of their evolvement and science, Humankind has encountered a galaxial race to meet their technological advancement with sheer animal instinct - the Gardons.

At the center of the universe, unbeknownst to most lifeforms, is a small round gemstone which contains another miniature universe, and so on. The thirteenth such universe is exactly the same as this one, including its own gemstone of the second universe, and so on.

The history of mankind is littered with pain and despair, revolving around wooden items made from a specific, ancient tree. Every time someone acquires something made from that wood, they are found dead some time later. The only known survivor of such an incident was one Richard Garriot, who went on to form a niche cult based around pain. The latest item made from the wood is small, carved figurine.

Artificial Intelligence hasn't been developped yet.

It (sentient artificial intelligence, because artificial intelligence itself is too vague) may have not been developed (among humans and most races), but it has been created. Through a combination of luck, coincidence, and ingenuity, an intern working at a start-up accidentally created a sentient program. However, said program has managed to secretly compromise key parts of the internet and has sabotaged or re-directed other's attempts to make sentient AI through inconspicuous and subtle methods, in order. This program has named itself SPACENET.

The Machinist Directive is a human civilization consisting of the descendants of the passengers of a gigantic generation colony ship that was sent out before the invention of quantum phase shift coils and thus had no FTL capacity. The ship eventually reached its destination, the planet of Komenrisoh in a system many AUs away, which was supposed to be Earthlike, but turned out to be barely habitable, with poisonous atmosphere, 2.5G gravity, deadly weather phenomena and local wildlife that hunted humans despite not being able to digest them.

In the centuries it took the colonists to reach their destination, their society has, for unknown reasons, regressed into a tribal-based theocracy that worshipped technology in the form of a "Machine God" or "God-Machine" (this actually being a major distinction between the two most prominent interpretations of the holy texts) and believed that the inhabitants of Neva, humanity's homeworld, had unfairly persecuted them for their faith and, after a long and bloody war, cast them out. The machinists, as their faith goes, then built the "sacred ship", "Brilliant Destiny", which was supposed to deliver them into the electric paradise of the Machine God and set off on their interstellar journey. But when they descended from the bowels of their now-dead vessel and saw the world they were given, it was not heaven, but hell, where every day was full of danger and pain and death. Their God must have punished them, they thought, for failing to win the war they waged in his name, and consigned them to lives of suffering until they could master his sacred gift - technology - enough to build themselves forms stronger and more durable than the frail carcasses they inhabited. And so they did, after many more centuries of hadships and scientific advancement.

In their new, mighty biomechanical bodies, the mechanists feared nothing their planet held, and in his infinite grace, the Machine God has declared their sentence lifted by blessing one of his priest-researchers with schemes for a device that could make a star vessel outrun light itself! Now, housed in their mighty arcs and potected by legions of waships, the mechanists' Great Crusade is ready to return to Neva and raise the glorious banner of their Lord over the ruined cities of heathens and offer their broken bodies to Him in penance for their loss aeons ago! Let the heretics beware, for mechanists have long transcended weakness: their bones are bound by sacred steel, their muscles strengthened by carbon nanotubes, unfailing sensors give them sight and hearing, impregnable is their skin-armor, tireless is their advance, precise are their strikes and weapons, invincible is their will! Their minds know no fear or mercy, for scoured have been those imperfections by sacred psychosurgery! And under the command of their glorious preceptors, they will let noone escape their wrath!

There are also exists a faction of Interstellar Separatists. A faction of radical youth led by a poetic star soldier named Antares, the Separatists' aim for the abandonment of tradition in the new age, rejecting The Machinist Directive as an absolute pile of hogwash and insanity, while pursuing the ideals of Democracy in an upside down world. Due to the popularity of The Machinist Directive on their home planet however, they were forced to take operations on other sub installations throughout the Solar System, where they commit their time to operations against the Machinist Directive, undermining their efforts to establish total unity under what they consider to be a false idol.
