There exist eight great cities outside of the gorge. Each city is associated with one of the eight great elements. Strong elementals of that type appear more frequently in those areas.
On the east side of the chasm there exists a tall mountain with a long stair-city spiralling up its side counter-clockwise.
This is one of such cities, known as Thaefar. Actually, the city at the top which the stair-city leads to is the City of Thaefar, whereas the stair-city itself is called Tolgrin, though the two combined are sometimes referred to as Thaefar (somewhat like London and the City of London). ((I'm not yet sure on what element it should be. I'll go for air unless someone has a better idea for an air city, in which case it could become an ice or lightning city.))

((Very well, I shall bring it up at a later point.

I repeat my request, can we get some full idea of what all we have made at the moment?

Ninjaedit: I was thinking the ice city could be at the north or south pole, and that the air city could be flying and be home to bird people.))

((Yeah, that sort of thing sounds more like a plot hook for a campaign within the setting. Individual mortals tend to lock things into a certain timeframe, whereas things like your roaming Time elemental don't really nail anything down. S'like... adding features to the world, rather than people. Same sort of idea as how we're saying things like "there's a city in such and such place with such and such qualities" rather than describing in detail a specific tavern within it.))

--

Past a certain point, the chasm is filled with a thick blanket of fogs; some rumors place the pirate capitol beneath the surface of this layer, making it virtually impossible to find without a guide. Few have ventured beyond the uppermost surface of it, and indeed, the pirates seem to know more of the world beneath than most. For some reason they are oddly reluctant to share tales of the deep, even those who are well-known as braggarts.

On the Eastern part of the planet, there is a huge strip of land populated by lizardmen who are renowned for their knowledge on Spirits. A caste of priests, who are in standing just underneath the nobles, know the ancient language of spirits and have learned many secrets and morals from them. Their capital city Sisslak is home to many academies teaching many different branches of Spiritology.

((I would like to make clear that the Primordial Time Elemental is currently trapped within a dearly-wishing-it-was-not immortal host, which is why it's raging and there aren't any other time elementals.

Primordial Space elemental was badly injured in the Primordial war and is sorta in a not-coma.))

((That's more or less the conclusion I'd drawn. Stuff like that is awesome for worldbuilding because it's static fluff with the potential to develop into plot if a GM/author so desires. :)) ))

There is an ocean found in the eastern side of the planet.

Around the shores live a humanoid race of crustaceans. They have navy blue, curved shells that cover their torsos, heads, forearms, and lower legs. On the areas the shells don't cover can be seen their exposed green muscle. The shells on their large heads present a simple round shape with a trailing protrusion at the back, and small holes just large enough for their glowing eyes to protrude out of. They have no other visible facial features other than a small mouth located on the underside of their head, which can only be seen if you are somehow looking at them from below. Their arms end in blunt masses of shell, with retractable fingers sticking out of them instead of regular hands. Their bodies have been built for striking, and so they possess incredibly upper body strength to allow them to punch at high speed even underwater.

Deeper into the ocean there are underwater cities inhabited by another amphibious race. They appear extremely similar to humans, but have very pale smooth skin and slicked back fronds that mimic hair. Where humans would have ears they instead possess pink salamander style gills, with blue webbing in between the stalks. They are surprisingly adept with tinkering and working with machinery.

((Excellent :D

As the GM of sorts, whats your impression of the world we have going on as of now? Not too many world ending threats (All of which i kinda made) I hope.))

Let's account our races thus far:

Spirits
Humans
Feathery-Reptile people (on the chasm walls), diverse, source of many pirate crews, generally secluded.
Lizard people (somewhere in the Eastern Hemisphere), wise in the ways of the spirits
Crustacean-people living (on the shores of an eastern ocean)
Human-looking amphibious people (living in said ocean)

I'd imagine this planet wouldn't have too much ocean, since any ocean touching the Chasm would drain into it.

((Bah, I'm hardly the leader of this pileup. It's a collective thing; at best I'll copy over a collation of information into the OP if/when we put one together. As far as world-ending threats go, I suppose we should probably keep a fairly light touch, because that's one of the easiest ways to go grimdark from the top down. Though again, we're working with a whole world and people have already set the stage for lots of sealed-apocalypse-in-a-can threats between the deep-dug cities and the giant mysterious Freudian symbol. It's just my opinion, but world-killers that are still completely unrealized are probably the safe route for a medium-fantasy sort of world; plenty of potential for adventure without the OHGODSWE'REGOINGTOSUFFERETERNALLY immediacy of an active or semi-active threat.))

((Oh man, that would be amazing. Make them into some sort of symbiotic amphibious rodent that keeps their hosts' shells clean, maybe?))

((More than you might think. I actually double-checked my figures because my initial size estimate for the chasm was far too low; 3k kilometers at the widest point is 12% of the Earth's circumference, and it's much, much narrower in quite a few places.))

--

To the west of the chasm is a vast, sandy desert prone to slow, steady winds with occasional violent storms.

((Certainly a strong possibility. I guess what I'm pointing towards is a world where there's plenty of evidence that things were royally fucked up in the past, but are actually not too bad for recent generations. Barring whoever is nearby when plot happens, of course. :V))

((In a collaborative effort like this, it might be best to leave some ambiguity for mythic past stuff, rather than setting it all in stone. Not totally chaotic, but ambiguous enough.))

For geography, though, it's best to err on this side of specificity. "To the West of the Chasm" is a bit ambiguous, since half of the planet is West of it. Do you mean there's a region of desert adjacent to the western rim, or is the entire Western rim a desert?
