There exists a race of cookie people that fly around on magical cups of milk spawning cookies on doorsteps of good children.
I know we're not supposed to contradict each other, but I think you may be missing the point.

There exists a race of cookie people that fly around on magical cups of milk spawning cookies on doorsteps of good children.
I know we're not supposed to contradict each other, but I think you may be missing the point.
((Well, I think the contradiction part was about making suggestions that completely ignore things people have said before, because otherwise that means we can't disagree with each other at all, and I believe the value in collaboration is not just in having someone else to come up with ideas where you're drawing a blank, but also to have someone invested in what you're doing together to tell you that some of your ideas are stupid or need refinement. Although I guess maybe it's better for the creative process to try to refine ideas before we dismiss them outright.))

Like, instead of cookie people giving good kids magic milk that spawns cookies or whatever, there was a type or group of Fae who give good kids cookies and they also gave bad kids identical-looking poisoned cookies. And maybe the Fae decide themselves who is a good or bad kid from what they've observed of the kid and possibly according to some twisted Fae logic. So most people just tell their kids to never eat Fae cookies, except there are stories told that those the Fae deem good and who eat the cookie given to them receive a great magical boon from consuming it. Maybe a special elemental bond or some rare power or increased aptitude; something that's worth risking getting poisoned for.

((I don't know, maybe it's still a stupid idea. But I guess it's worth at least trying to be inspired by stupid ideas if we don't have a lot of new good ideas coming in rather than just stalling because we don't feel we have good enough inspiration.))

The Poles are on the east and the west of the planet.
The chasm seperates the poles going from north to south.
If the poles are on the East and West, it'd be more accurate to still call them North and South and say the planet's rotation is highly tilted. However, being tilted such precludes any kind of day-night cycle.

I just used the information as it appeared in the writings. It is a fantasy setting, so anything goes I guessed, but we can change that.

Thanks again for starting that up. I was just thinking we needed to organize the locations of things.

As for info about things, I put the Midnight Jungle, home of the Fire Panthers and Fire Panther Company Headquarters, in the West. I didn't give a more specific location at the time, but Flying Dice (or at least I think it was him) did mention there being some coastal jungles west of the mountain range in the west, so I'd say that's a good enough place as any for it.

And Mt. Thaefar didn't have a more specific location, but I think somewhere north would work for it, since there isn't really anything in that direction so far, and the marsh area with the tavern is near it's base, so I suppose we could place it south of the mountain.

How about make it so the children must defend said cookie people from the rain as it makes them to soggy. Only children who shelter them are given cookies?

That way it is still light and happy, just a bit less over-the-top

Because it kinda is stupid.

I mean, there's a cake elemental somewhere in the chasm city but it's a one of a kind thing. Cookie people is just... no.

Yeah I agree.

I had some other ideas that would have made more sense, but the title says light and happy, not dark and demented like my ideas

((My proposal to fix it the cookie thing, building off kadzars idea but spinning it in a way that retains the whimsy))

There are a tiny variety of Fae called (brownies maybe? Or if something better fits here *shrug*) who tend to live in cities and other areas densly populated by sentients. These fae appear as having a small humanoid body a few inches high, with brownish tan coloring, and white wispy smoke that is exuded by their bodies like an aura. They naturally posess skill at crafting and cooking, and their magic abilities trend torwards imbueing their creations with enchantments. For example, they may create foods that promote longevity and healing, or tools that never wear out, or clothes that keep the wearer at just the right temperature. They are playful but elusive beings who take great measures to avoid being exploited, prefer the company of children to adults if they cannot avoid contact, and exhibit a higher awareness of the values of regular sapients and what some believe to be higher intelligence compared to other fae varieties. If they feel they owe someone a favor, for example after using their home for shelter, they will leave behind one of their creations as a gift. If they are aided in person and establish communication, they will allow the one who aided them to request what sort of item they are gifted. If they feel they have been wronged, they will begin clandestinely sabotaging the belongings and plans of the one who harmed them. It is for this reason that there is a notable variance in opinion on if it is good or bad to have them in your area, as there are instances where one can offend them without knowing why, which spreads a reputation of them being troublemakers. It has been noted by those who have encountered them that they have a peculiar fondness for baked goods.

(The title says "lighter and happier" which are both relative terms. What is this setting supposed to be lighter and happer than? just Ashworld? or is everything supposed to be very light and happy?
In other words, are things that are kinda-dark or kinda-sad, but not that much, allowed?)

(They are allowed. I interpreted the meaning as trying to goi n a more Noblebright direction, but in actuality its more just don't make it grimdark, go for a more fantastical world fit for exploring without everything trying to kill you and tragedy behind every door. See FD's spice metaphor in the OP))
