Having browsed the forums for a little more than 4 years, I have noticed, like everyone else, that most of the suggestions are reposts from older suggestions. Not only that, most of the suggestions fall under one of the following categories:
-already implemented
-planned for the very next release
-planned somewhere in the cycle (boats, 4th dimension, etc.)
-not happening any time soon (multiplayer, multithreading, etc.)
In addition, many of the features/bugfixes new players seem to suggest are:
-easily moddable (e.g. custom workshops/reactions)
-implemented in the form of scripts/plugins/binpatches for dfhack
-existing in the form of third party utilities
I believe many of the new posters' suggestions could be avoided if they were redirected toward the tremendous work some people in this community have already done. How many people do you think already know that there is already a
lighting system,
a plugin for digging invaders, a way for adventurers to perform many reactions in fort mode (advfort), etc.? When I was new to this game I didn't think of checking the modding/utilities section since I already had much trouble figuring out the goddamn base game to begin with, so I just went ahead and posted whatever came to my mind I thought was best to improve the game. I think there should be a sticky of some kind that lists most of the common suggestions and their current status in terms of implementation and in terms of development cycle. What do you think?
