"Greetings you poor schmucks and welcome to X-Com. I am your leader, who they dragged in from off the streets after hearing me spout out an idea of forming a unit to fight 'extraterrestrials', as I assume happened to most of you, only I just got to saying the idea first or it was because they believed I was in an abduction of some kind. Honestly, I have no idea what that person slipped into my drink... Anyway, by some miracle of a sales pitch, some guy managed to convince the world governments to give us money each month to combat an 'extraterrestrial threat' as they put it. We have enough money coming in that we should do just fine against this 'threat'. In the meantime, we are having an election for the location of the alpha site, as well as for a better name than 'Alpha Site', so make sure you get your vote in. I don't think we'll be seeing any combat though. Seriously an extraterrestrial threat? Let me guess, little gray aliens with laser pistols coming down from flying saucers? This isn't some science fiction convention, this is real life, but hey, like the rest of you, ten thousand a month is not too much to sneeze at, especially with that signing bonus they were offering. Seriously, it's not like those stories are true and we'll have anything to deal with, am I right? What could possibly go wrong..."

I have only played this game long enough to get a rough idea of how the controls work, and I am going right into superhuman. This is not going to end well.

Also, if anyone could recommend a suitable character from a movie or video game to use for an image for the leader of XCom, that would be great.

Name: Broomy Mcbucket
Preferences (weapons, stats, etc): Medium and Heavy arms.
Bio: A broom with a smiley face painted bucket placed on one end, with RC helicopters welded to a series of metal hinges set to jerk about randomly in place of limbs, all stuffed into an X-Com uniform. A tape recorder has been taped to the broom's handle, set to rattle off quotes and catchphrases recorded from action movies and things the other X-Com soldiers mutter in their sleep. Submitted by a pair of drunken scientists as part of a bet over how low X-Com standards were. Unfortunately the recruiting officer had gone to the same party they had, and was even more smashed at the time.

Name: Maxclone (I, II, III, IV, V, VI)
Preferences (weapons, stats, etc): Explosions. Lots of explosions.
Bio: Part of a DARPA cloning experiment to create the ultimate fighter pilot, the Maxclones were sent to XCOM to be deployed against the otherworldly menace. Because the program was...less than successful... the Maxclones tend to be wildly unstable, all of them sharing a love of combat, explosions, alcohol, and more explosions. DARPA shut down the program after six Maxclones were created, and no more are to be made, due to the Geneva Conventions. They are to be deployed one at a time, as they will attempt to kill one another until physically restrained, and cryogenically frozen (as you will find them in the forthcoming cargo container.) Good luck, Commander.
Appearance (may be an image): Varies with genetic modifications. Generally short, stout, and dark-haired.

Preferences (weapons, stats, etc): Basic Rifle, two flares, one smoke. Good accuracy and either high TU or strength.
Bio: A technician contracted to go to the recruiting office to rewire their LAN, fainted at the sight of the 'aliens' on the recruitment posters and the recruiter decided the gullibility quotient was far too high to be believed.

Bio: Generally silent. Probably horribly traumatized by previous military experiences, but doesn't like to talk about it.

Bio: McBill is a grizzled cop two weeks from retirement. Apparently this pissed somebody off, because he was transferred here to serve it out.

Bio: A quantity of solid caramel contained in a pastry cup, with an attached note stating "Not safe for consumption". It was first discovered in a toxic chemicals cupboard bearing rank insignia and an X-com badge. As a result of standard recruitment policy, this was sufficient to have it added to the active duty roster.

We now have a total of seven soldiers, so one more, and once I get home, I can begin the game...if we get at least one of the base petitions supported by more than 1 person. All petitions for the base name and location are in the OP and are currently tied, and I would prefer if the base was selected by vote rather than having it be my choice, but if there are eight soldiers by the time I have free time, then I will just start the game, deciding upon the location of those given myself.

Bio: (Note: Standard recruitment of individuals is for the recruiter to go to a party, get drunk, and invite as many as possible.) He convinced an off-duty recruitment officer to let him join without any effort at all. scans saw the officer having minor damage to the brain including misplaced chemicals. The more paranoid think he has mind control powers.

Well, this certainly meshes with the 'no one here knows what is about to come'. Posts detailing reactions to the first mission should prove interesting.

Anyway, any further people that want to be deployed immediately will need to be the pilots of one of the interceptors or the skyranger. Also, the request for an image of a person from a video game or movie is still there, a mild bit more urgent if it is going to be in the first game post.
