I wanted to get the transition period over with.
Day, January 11, 1999
: "Sir, the new scientists and troops have arrived."
: "..."
: "...Sir?"
: "Where were these assholes twelve hours ago?"
: "Coming to base for their deployment, sir."
: "Fix those damn logistics, and get me their files."
: "You don't want to meet them?"
: "I'll meet the officers, and right now, the only one who meets that criteria is an out of commission robot."
: "Where's one of those clones we got? We just lost one, so standing orders are to thaw one of those redshirts."
: "It takes time to thaw one of them from the freeze they're in. And I'm certain that DARPA would not li-"
: "I don't give a damn about DARPA. We're an international organization, and those clones were
donated. They don't have any claim on the Max series."
: "...of course, sir."
: "You're not a part of the US navy Commander Woods, you're a member of XCom now. Start thinking like it."
: "Yes, sir."
: "Throw three of those new scientists on the Laser project, five on the corpses, two on the motion tracker, and pull one off of the medkits so we can get the tracker done faster. The Greys don't leave behind wounded often."
: "Yes, sir."
Night, January 11, 1999
: "Sir, there's another one in the US Northeast."
: "Have you shot it down yet?"
: "No, bu-"
: "Have you sent an interceptor after it?"
: "Yes."
: "Good, shoot it down, and don't bother me forwards. And make certain it is completely destroyed. I don't want anything on the ground for the conspiracy theorists. Greece was bad enough. We
barely managed to keep that from getting out and revealing us. The northeast will be even worse."
: "Yes, sir."
-30 minutes later-
: "The bogey has been obliterated."
: "Good."
January 12, 1999
: "More supplies have arrived, sir."
: "Not going to mean much without the Skyranger."
: "True, sir."
January 14, 1999
: "The Skyranger has arrived with a complement of troops."
: "Excellent. Bring me their files, I want to know who we have."
: "Here you are."
: "Another of the Kaos Clan?"
: "This one is a girl, unlike the others."
: "A girl?"
: "Yes, family resemblance is quite high isn't it?"
: "Yes...I see the Max clone was finally thawed."
: "Yes. We are getting better at un thawing them."
: "Ye-wait, better?"
: "We haven't lost one yet, unlike in the tests, and we are managing to increase speed."
: "I'm not going to inquire further."
: "That is for the best."
: "What's with all the color names?"
: "Death row inmates and/or people who don't want to be identified."
: "And the inmates won't..."
: "Shock proof, welded, explosive collars with remote detonators."
: "That works."
: "Quite well. In fact, the Miss Red on the previous mission was the first we tried that on."
: "We'll need more testing, but she did listen. This Mr. Red doesn't have any relation to her, right."
: "Only at they're from the same prison."
: "Ah."
: "In addition to the new troops arriving, I would like to also report that the second storage area has been made."
: "Build up another living area as well."
: "Yes, sir."
January 15, 1999
: "Got the interceptor shells, and the cannon shells for the tank we bought."
: "Where's the tank?"
: "Not yet here, sir."
: "...who send the shells before the tank?"
: "The Council, sir."
: "Meh, what else could be expected from a bureaucracy besides idiocy and a snail's pace."
: "Frankly, sir, I think a snail is faster."
: "Ha!"
Evening, January 16, 1999
: "Sir, we've found another one."
: "Where?"
: "Lower Michigan peninsula."
The place is close enough that I can choose to either strafe it with an Interceptor then launch the Skyranger, or assault it directly with the Skyranger. Vote on which I should do.
