I have good news and bad news.

The good news is that I nabbed a backup boot USB thingy.

The bad news is that the laptop was several years old; I think the hard-drive is starting to give. I might have to get a new one anyway.

I'll see what happens when I get back from work.

Hard drives don't last forever, but that's a much easier problem to solve than a whole new computer.  Also much cheaper.... If you're not picky about capacity, a decent refurb HDD can be as little as US$20.

Okay, so I bought a new desktop for $400. It's actually twice as powerful as my current laptop. However, I just don't have the time to set it up and uninstall all the pre-installed garbage.

On the other hand, my laptop finally booted; all I had to do was skip the chkdsk on startup. It gave me exactly 1 second to cancel it so it took a few tries.

Since we missed one week, there'll be two winners this week. Sorry about making you all wait.
