The rules for the mutual consumption round are simple.
Each application rolls a 1d20 against another, the winner advances in simple elimination manner.
For each $1 that an entry has above its opponent, it gets a d1 penalty. So a $5 game vs a $4 game rolls a 1d19 instead.
However, for each vote that a game has, it gets a d1 bonus. So a game with 3 votes rolls a 1d23 before $ penalties are considered.

Rust and Banished are going to have a pretty tough time winning against the cheaper games. So put those votes to work!

Well...

I always considered that anyone nominating a game was purchasing it for themselves.

Sounds like the game nominations are tied to specific people. I'm guessing you could say "I want X game for Y person", but otherwise it's "I want X game" and that's it.
