That looks like the first stage of Spore turned up to 11. Which is actually pretty cool.

That it's time for applications?
That it's time for the spankings we've all been saving up?
That it's going to be more gruesome than we've imagined?

If it's the last case, then https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-HaZvJZaiYQ

Further actions on the unfortunate participants shall be devised.

Shadowlord: CK2: Charlemagne on Steam
Sirus: Sparkle 2 Evo
MaximumZero: Symphony

Hm, I've encountered that "Computer freezes completely when playing games". It happened when playing Crypt of the Necrodancer instead of Hisoutensoku. The only thing that's similar is the method it crashes; the sound goes into a loud "krrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr" sound and then stops. I have no choice but to force-off the computer.

Does anyone know why this would happen on a stock Windows 8 laptop (aside from the fact that it's Windows 8 ). The only thing I can think of is the audio driver or graphics card conflicting with something. I've checked Google, but the graphics card is AMD, not NVIDIA.

Edit: It seems that it was either a one-time thing or updating my display driver fixed it.

With such a generic description, I can say it's something related to the laptop. Yup, definitely the laptop portion. :p

It's probably an overheating issue, but could also be a general memory fault, poor solder connection, faulty miscellaneous chip, bad capacitor, or . . .

There's a lot of things it could be. Buggy drivers, bad firmware, faulty hardware... I'd look in the windows event log and see if there's any errors in there, which might give you a clue what the problem is (or might not be helpful at all).

But 99% of the time if my computer (with 64-bit windows 8 pro) freezes completely, or near completely, and eventually unfreezes (or I have task manager up and it's updating still), it's because something is using a hard drive so much that everything seems to grind to a halt (and yet it doesn't always do it when the disk usage in task manager is maxed out, so I assume there must be something extra that causes it). Or if I run out of RAM (I haven't upgraded beyond 4 GB), and stuff gets shoved into virtual memory, everything seems to go super slow or just freeze because hard drives are slow as hell compared to RAM.

Figured out what was wrong, after a memory and hardware test came up empty, I went and downloaded speccy. It turns out my CPUs were running 90+ degrees on average and my temp reporter was off the whole time! Luckily, there doesn't seem to be any serious damage yet, but I'm keeping my laptop off until I can find something to open up that annoying tiny screw on the back so I can clear the fan.

So until then, I'm gonna have to call a hold on the giveaway again. my apologies. You can still vote and apply until the list is full, but it may be some time until I can go buy one of those tiny screwdriver things.

Wow, 90+ degrees? That's "SHUT EVERYTHING DOWN" temperature. It's nice to actually know what the problem is, I'll bet.

I'm guessing you need the #0 mini-screwdriver? (whatever that is! :V)

You might be able to just order something from Amazon that has what you need (The ones I'm seeing on staples' website all look like they're missing the anti-static wrist strap now, which is weird).
http://www.amazon.com/Rosewill-Piece-Premium-Computer-RTK-045/dp/B0045KYOGM/ref=zg_bs_13825561_5
List of stuff in that (on newegg), because amazon is missing said list: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16899261022&cm_re=rosewill_45-_-99-261-022-_-Product

I got a small kit at staples a few years ago that includes an anti-static wrist strap, various screwdriver sizes, and other tools. The anti-static wrist strap is an important thing to use properly if you're opening up a computer and getting your hands near anything inside. You'll also want some cans of compressed air. Using a vacuum could fry things because the vacuum hose can carry static electricity. I'd also suggest unplugging the fan or holding the blades still before you blow the dust out, because if it rotates it can generate current, which can damage things that it's plugged into (the motherboard).

Okay, now I have no idea what's going on, opened it up, cleaned all the vents, emptied the fan (It was a little lint ball in there), blew compressed air through everything possible, yet the temp is still pushing high 80s.

I guess it's going to have to wait until I can get this laptop to a professional.
