Well, you guys should be getting reinforcements soon from David and I, but as a warning, my plan (since as far as I know, we're going in alone) is terrible. You have been warned.
Plans? Pfffttt! Good one!

On the topic of warnings: if you guys haven't figured it out already, Rhogar is very VERY chaotic. The good part means that he won't do anything outright evil or dishonorable, such as killing someone in cold blood, but it also means he is liable to attack anyone doing said evil or dishonorable stuff, even if he's not 100% certain that they did, in fact, do it. I will be going all out role play, too, so even if I know that you didn't do aforementioned stuff, he might not. Don't worry though, he'll stop stabbing as soon as you're unconscious. Probably.

That's fine. I fully intend to roleplay Keyleth's complete ignorance of how much of the world outside her monastery works.

Damirion opens the door and walks in. He uses his cantrips to turn all of the torches off and back on.
Don't try to run. You're surrounded. Might as well give us the gems, and y'know, not die.
This reminded me of a question I had: with lowlight vision, will I be able to see somewhat in complete darkness, or will I be just as blind as everyone else?

I think you will be able to see stuff if there is a light source somewhere.

But will I be able to see if there isn't any light source? Obviously I won't be able to see well, but will it give me an edge over someone with regular vision?

I think you need infravision or fancypants darkvision to see non-illuminated stuff, and infravision can still be tricked. One thing that the books never mention, text won't show up in infrared. Although, I suppose a highly metallic ink would have sufficiently different thermal properties so as to be legible in the presence of a weak heat source.

Facepalmedit: Does infravision even exist in 4e?

DM, I have to ask, are you bothering to use initiative at all? And will we ever get some maps for battles?

He probably does initiatives but we don't actually see them?

I'm just not sure since the posts so far have been somewhat willy-nilly. Hopefully now that folks are teaming up we'll have a bit more organization.

That is correct. I was mostly trying to get everyone to act simultaneously and everyone would burst in at the same time, but it didn't work out as I planned.

Also, thoughts on my anti-deus ex machina?

(In case you didn't know, deus ex machina is where the solution for a problem comes from nowhere, like having killed all the trees around your fort and on the verge of a tantrum spiral when all of a sudden the elves arrive.)

I needed some kind of campaign overarching plotline which I wanted to instill in the game early. I figured a mysterious ghost with mysterious motives stealing mysterious things summoning mysterious trolls is a good way to get all you to stick together and do the stuff that the first post of the campaign thread says you're supposed to do.

DM, I have to ask, are you bothering to use initiative at all? And will we ever get some maps for battles?

Also, there have been two battles so far, one of which happened in a 2 tile by 50 or so tile hallway and the other in a one by eight alley.

Finally:

-Do not worry. I plan for fewer surprises later on.

-I had to nerf the quest a bit from what it was before when Remuthra quit, so I sort of had to improvise a villain and boss monster. I'd been expecting that we'd have a bandit chief go escape and try to kidnap the queen, but we lost a character and I had to compensate XP rewards.

Also, Ensorceler, I like your character pic. No joke.

It was...an odd way to go, that's for sure. I almost wish that dragonborn didn't crit the Intimidate roll though, was looking forward to a fight :P
