Don't know if it's the same, but here in Ekris it's something like (1d20 + 1/2 lvl + dex mod) for your initiative, rolled once per encounter.

It says what your initiative is on your sheet. Just add that to a d20 roll. Even if it's a negative number. Simple!

Don't worry too much about rolling initiative. That tends to be the DM's job in asynchronous games like these.
