Kyle smirks back.
"And I must admit that for all the talk from my kin about 'civil' folk being soft they are very lovely."
This brought a deep blush to Alice's cheeks.
"Oh... Thank you... I'm not used to compliments like that..."

Kyle leans towards Alice some.

The spirit is chuckling quietly from his vantage point in Kyle's hair.

In Paludan

Kyle leans towards Alice some.
"I did not know you were among the blind here."

All Alice could manage in response to this was "Oh!" with a deep blush only partially hidden by a hand brought up to her mouth. Kyle and Alice finished their meal with less conversation, Kyle deciding not to push the shy young woman any further outside of her comfort zone. After the meal Alice took Kyle to see one of the Regenerative Alchemy specialists, who gave him a collection of herbs to drink as a tea that would help his arm recover fully. His splint was checked over as well, by a master who had recently written a manuscript entitled “Alchemical Approaches to Skeletal Injuries.” He got advice on how treat the arm properly as it recovered, to ensure the injury didn’t leave any lasting damage. As he was going through examinations, and after their completion, Alice described the Guild a little more. It seemed each master chose their own field of expertise. As a novice everyone was taught the same basics and tested on them. When they passed the tests they became journeymen, who were encouraged to spend time with masters in Paludan and elsewhere, and even in solitude, pursuing a kind of alchemical pilgrimage in which the journeyman explored their interests. Journeymen became masters through the writing of a manuscript which contributes to the understanding of alchemy in some particular area of interest, which they continued to explore as masters. Master Feran, Alice’s teacher as a novice, was pursuing different ways of preparing herbs that have psychoactive effects so as to select for specific effects of the herbs. He had already developed one concoction which took an herb that induced a coma and purified it to help induce a controlled sleep. Alice talked about how she didn’t know what she wanted to pursue, but she was looking forward to reaching journeyman status and exploring other master’s research.

A couple of yards from the Inn

The dire nature of Joe’s situation was lost on none but himself. He reached out to break the club that had hurt him so badly. But which club? He could see three of them, though he swore moments before there had only been one enemy. He grasped at first one then another, finding air each time he expected wood. The five clubs simply moved too quickly for him to sort out which he had just reached at. He felt certain he could snap the shoddy weapon in half if only he could figure out which of the four was real. Luckily, his allies jumped into action before the club he struggled to find found his head again. Will’s well-placed arrow interceded on Joe’s behalf first, tearing the tendons in the clubman’s knee. The foe fell to the ground, bent over his damaged leg, when Cromwell brought his sword down, separating the man’s head cleanly from his neck. Joe was graced with the bizarre and disorienting site of a collection of heads rolling at his feet, and proceeded to vomit. Clair’s ax was in close pursuit of Cromwell’s sword when she halted its arc, realizing the once threatening young man had been brutally killed, and no further desecration of his body was necessary.
Color draining from his face the knife thrower decided retreat was his best option. He was so shaken up by what he’d seen, however, that he couldn’t stay on his feet. He tripped and sat on the ground where he fell, sobbing.

In Paludan

Kyle continued listening ardently to Alice. Soon she realized that it would be easier for him to remember everything if it was written down. She drafted a quick report about the Alchemists Guild and gave it to Kyle. However, his furlough was quickly running out, and he knew it was time to return. He thought he saw a small tear in Alice’s eye as he left, but she assured him that she understood that he needed to be with his companions, and that they needed him. On the trip back to the inn he practiced the exercises for his arm that had been recommended, and he strengthened his arm to the point where he could go without the splint. He had enjoyed his time with Alice, but now he was ready for a fight.

A couple of yards from the Inn

Joe sat still, holding his head, trying to recover his balance and senses. The world clarified itself around him, and he saw his three cohorts approach the only remaining foe. Will’s bow had an arrow nocked, and was trained at the knife thrower’s head. Clair’s axe hovered menacingly, and the image was completed by the blood dripping from Cromwell’s sword. With this menacing trio approaching it took but a word from Will for the young man to drop his knives and scurry off. Will collected these weapons before the stopping by Joe to steady him as he stood up, and the group walked back to the inn, leaving the grisly scene behind them.

Back at the Inn

The group on the contract returned first. Joe was still nursing his injured head, and Cromwell had not yet cleaned his sword. As they walked in the Innkeeper Meren nodded and said, ”Looks like that’s done. Thank you, your debt thus far is forgiven.” With that the innkeeper went back to the kitchen to yell at the slow cook.

Kyle returned to the sight of the four of them sitting around a table, Joe only occasionally rubbing his bruised head now. ”You guys look a little worse for wear… I thought that was supposed to be a quick and easy contract? Ah well, you should take a look at this. This info could be useful.”
There were a number of comments around the table questioning if Kyle went to Paludan to be useful, but nonetheless the mercenaries glanced over the report.

So, enlighten us, Kyle, how was your trip?"
