Hate to interject but you are not prepared for the turtle. I suggest you do the mapping mission first and then use the reward to buy better equipment for the turtle.

Three notes:

First, in the interest of getting this moving, I'll take those three agreeing as all agreeing unless someone speaks up by tonight.

Second, I will be gone for most of this weekend for RL stuff. Don't panic, either Sunday night or Monday I will update.

Third, to clarify timeframes, this meeting at the inn is occurring one week after the treaty was signed in Ludan.

Hey all, since we're moving into territory where you might be jumped by things which think life's greatest issue is whether you're a three or a four course meal, I need to know if your characters first thought is to jump away from the threat, or put a giant chunk of metal between you and it.

Options include:
Always Dodge
Always Block
Block melee, dodge ranged and magic
Absolutely any other algorithm I can employ to figure out what your character does

This is so I can make combat move quickly. Besides, it's called a reaction for a reason. Your character does have time to debate the merits of shields versus rolling away. They have to do one. Immediately.

Is 'stab with arrow and use ensuing confusion of being stabbed to hook a bow around it's bits and pull on. Hard' an option?

Lol. No. Until you get the "Arrow counterstrike followed by bow badassery" skill, you can't do that. :P

Legitimately though, you could get an arrow based counterstrike.

In all seriousness though, should I put you down as an always dodge type of character? Blocking with your bow will not be good for it...

Yes.

Remind me to get a metal like bow to amend that problem.

Why would we have to do it immediately if we have time to debate our course of action first?

Also, is "Always both dodge and block" an option?

Sorry, was supposed to say does not. Also, blocking and dodging simultaneously is not something a relatively inexperienced fighter would be able to do. So no, for now your character can't do both

To make sure I understand the magic system I made this visual aid. (Pardon the shittyness it's my first time using mspaint)
Kay: rectangles= sapient beings (grey=human brown=other) and Crystals (red)
Lines= manna
Black= misc.

So, all sapient beings absorb and store energy.

They can direct this energy but in it's raw state it doesn't do jack. However if it is directed at a Crystal it is anchored and refined into energy that actually does stuff. Some people can redirect it from themselves, through the Crystal, back through themselves and to an object.

Some races either through having a Crystal in them or through some biological function automatically refine the energy into a usable verity.
