Okay, so here's what I have so far.

They do act through crystals, and the power that they steal is not so much of a "steal physical strength" thing as a "steal mana" thing.

The mechanic I would use for this is that the person they steal from would have a small penalty to trying to channel energy through crystals, as they have less energy reserves to do so. Resisting the ghost stealing mana would be an intuition roll, so this is one stat we might consider the ghosts having.

This would then give the ghost a certain number of "charges" to try to channel through crystals. I would also let them brute force a success, meaning they can channel extra charges for a bonus to their roll. There is a chance every turn for a charge to disappear, dependent perhaps on intuition if we give them stats. A ghost may float a crystal inside of their body, but they must have 1 charge saved up per crystal in order to maintain them. If they drop below the number of crystals then they lose a crystal, and it can be taken by anyone nearby.

There is still the matter of whether or not they experience character growth.

I think they should simply because not being able to customize and adapt your character is no fun.

Sounds good to me. I'm two thirds done with the Alchemists Guild lore, and will then write that race in.

BTW, these mercenaries are going to quickly have a lot of political possibilities, so its important that you know that you can always decide to not take a contract and instead try to take action to influence a political situation.

I still think that Ghost growth should only be magic or ghost related due to their limitation maybe with physical manifestation being an extremely high level one.

Freaking gigantic lore section on Alchemists Guild posted. If you're interested, read all of it. If not, the most important bit for gameplay is the Important Persons section.

Working on turn and ghosts right now, but that's running parallel to my New Genesis update, so it won't come out super quickly.

Effectively 70 coins, but it was all in debt being forgiven. If you feel you need more equipment, you can sell your knives, as well as Kyle's spare bow with his permission. You could also ask the innkeeper for a short term loan. He is amiable enough right now, after all.

Yeah, wasn't much good for your wallets. However, any of the first three contracts in your list should either yield useful equipment, or else enough money to purchase it.
