How do I deactivate guilds properly?
« on: February 22, 2014, 03:44:02 am »

So... I really don't like those. How do I get rid of them? I see the "guild hall" in the GUI and can deactivate that, but my dwarves @ embark still come with guilds attached... -.-

edit:
By now I have located the "YESCASTES" tag in the raws and used it to get rid of the "[" that follows...
In the embark screen, the castes are gone, except for the arcane dwards which seem to have a different tag ("YESMAGIC"), so I guess those aren't part of the guild system...?

Now before I go on to spend 3-4 hours planning my new embark+fortress:
- Is there a reason this wasn't in the GUI?(Like: does it break something else if the YESCASTES tagged entries are disabled as they are at the moment?)
- Are there more tags that I need to take a look at? Or single castes I need to re-enable? I want to disable only that additional layer of individual dwarf competences for normal labor (there's enough labor assignment micromanagment for my taste in the game already). Castes needed for special purposes (like curses etc... not sure how they work) are fine.

You could just disable harder learning so that dwarves learn at a vanilla rate but get bonuses for guild membership.  You would probably want to turn off harder mining too then if you won't exclusively put masons guild in mining positions to avoid coal dust/warpstone death.
