A Steamy dilemma

So, yesterday Arma III went on sale. I've been wanting it for a while now, so I decided to pick it up.
However, on the check out page: Steam wonked out for a second and then told that it could not complete the transaction because I already own the game. And now, I do. I even got a free copy of Cold War Assault because I "bought" Digital Deluxe Edition. Today I checked my bank account and sure enough, Steam hasn't charged me.

So, should I report this or not? I mean I want to pay where money is due, but I'm also a poor college kid-o.

Personally, and I don't want to sound odd, if you feel the need I'd say file a little claim, if not and you just want to keep the free game I'd say do what I'd do in this situation and keep a quiet keyboard :P

if u have a big steam collection, then I would tell support... mainly because u never know if this is later found out and your account suspended or something and you lose the whole collection. Better play safe. Plus, maybe they even gift it to you for your honesty.

Now if you have only a couple of games, then just go ahead and enjoy the freebie. Not much to lose anyways

how plausible is it for you to deny that you ever noticed something went wrong?

i mean... from the sounds of it i would assume youre not that great in computers and happy that steam is so uncomplicated and runs your games for you, right?

Id say, you keep the mouth shut. You can always say you tought it got deducted from the bank account, you didnt checked, etc. Big corporations dont need any more help from us, even "friendly" ones as valve, POWER TO THE PEOPLE; BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD.

Big corporations dont need any more help from us
If you go to a 'big' coffee shop (Starbucks for example) and get a coffee, should you not have to pay for it because they already have lots of money?

This also happens to me, I use paypal and it's normally 3-6 working days and the money goes out, jut wait and see what ever you do don't spend the money and leave nothing in your account I have made that mistake :P

Are you being aggressive or is English just your second language?

This has nothing to do with morals, some people don't think that not reporting this would be immoral. I am somewhat inclined to agree with them. I did nothing illegal; Valve just accidentally gave me a game for free, it's not my duty to tell them they made a mistake. I just want to know peoples opinions.
Also, voting in no way requires you to reveal your identity.

I wouldn't count on being able to argue your case. The typical ToS shit on the customer and grant crazy rights to the company, and any petition is basically as important as any other customer service issue, which is to say, don't hold your breath. Those who have actually used Steam may have a different opinion of Steam's customer service specifically.

I'd say it's a cost of doing business: any failure of their software must be a detriment to them. Valve needs to code securely, and if they fail and lose your personal data you're not going to get some cash payout. If they accidentally charge you triple they need to pay you back. If they accidentally don't charge you then they should be assed out. In the end this should be a situation where they are 100% responsible for doing a good job or else suffer some consequence. There just aren't many other mechanics for meaningful feedback about their business practices and the quality of their service.

If the game's seller wanted that money, they should go to Valve and ask why their shit don't work.

If we as customers had more control over the company, if we could demand a rebate for terrible service or poor customer support for example, this wouldn't be the only method for meaningful feedback and it would be appropriate to file a support ticket. I guess what I'm saying is, if you feel that your relationship with a company should be one where you are powerless, my argument makes no sense. But if you think your customer-corporate relationship should be more evenly matched, you need to be able to exert power somehow, and this is pretty much all you've got. They built it that way for a reason: because they were the ones building it.

I wouldn't have bothered with a ticket. If it's a real bug, multiple people will experience it and they'll fix it. It's ridiculous to think that they'd autoban everyone who didn't submit a support ticket. More likely they'll either do nothing, or if they can actually find the effected accounts they'd remove the copy and credit some lame other thing as an apology.
