Are you ready for the tears?
« on: February 19, 2014, 08:48:52 pm »

Quote
Today's success was to have a crying mother spit on me and call me a murderer, so that's where we're at. Of course, people familiar with modding or magma crabs might guess that the first time she spit at me, the glob came out frozen and my murderous character, being handy with a sword, batted the saliva ice cube out of the park. After I fixed that, and some other stuff, it splattered on my toga. There are tears and sweat now as well, coming out of the right tissues at the right times. As with blood, it remembers who provided them up to a point, which should be fun for brewing witches' potions and so on in some distant future. Fixed some other crashes and mess as well. Hopefully we can move on to cheerier territory.

Dwarf Fortress players have long had to deal with the horrors of everything but crying mothers.  Are you going to be impacted by your dwarves mourning their lost?  Will it change how you play the game?

All this means is that when my dwarves leave their babies in the Danger Room, they will cry when the baby is impaled on a training spear.

Yes, yes I am ready to make them bawl their eyes out.

Hopefully beating each other to death will be a less common way of expressing their emotions, now. :P

They'll still beat each other to death, they will just be crying and yelling, "This hurts me more than it hurts you!" while they do it.

I want goblins and trolls to cry, too. OH! And dogs & cats when their offspring are whisked off to the butchers', mere seconds after being born!

Dwarf Fortress -- kind of like Minecraft, but for people who hate themselves.

New megaproject idea:  A well of orphan tears.

This was literally the first thing that came to my mind from reading that tears and spit are now liquids in game. Not something like "Aaaaw, families can grieve over their dead." No, I thought "Let's build a well full of tears and make my dwarves drink from it." DF, what have you done to me.

Seems reasonable, do liquids fall out of cages, can I capture an elf and put it in a glass cage and drawn them in their own tears?

I don't understand why you need magma.

Well done OP, you've inadvertently weaponized ghosts.

I'm sure Toady's thanking us by now.  :P We got him used to the horrors we could do, so now this sort of testing probably doesn't faze him as much.

Oh yes. We're rolling now.
You all know what's coming next. Tales of pee and poo. :)

Toilets, proper sewers, ventilation, weaponized raw sewage....
Actually, let's stop at tears and sweat as far as bodily fluids go. I do not wish to pursue this train of thought any further.

The same blocker as before: most liquids are just objects not fluids.

Congrats, Psieye. This is the first time I've seen a derailed thread get put back on the rails.

To late, - the '...coming out of the right tissues at the right times.' made me at once wonder if:
  • Spores will get replaced soon.
  • 'Genetic research' will become possible with tactical 'tissue' removal.

In that case then the well would need some water for a filler. Similar to The Well of Unlife, just contaminate the water with sweet salty tears instead of vampire blood.
