That would be correct; no mounts, rune books/house deeds are not blessed, skill gain is slower (for a freeshard), 700/100 skill/stat cap, no power scrolls, stat loss for PKer killed by Pker killers (paladins), nerfed gold drops, custom houses will be expensive when implemented, no ista-hit bows, not heat seaking explo pots, no insurance, absolutely no neon hues.

As I said; Hard Core, Old school, Uncompromising, very Dwarfy.

What is there not to love?

Well all that sounds good except

1) Bows and spells just have a delay, which is fine, that's how it should be, but it's still going to visually track around to the target and the animation will hit. But that doesn't really matter because the anim is separate from the damage. Right?
2) Explosion pots have a countdown. Cooking them off in hand is a time-honored tactic.
3) Low skill cap is fairly common
4) Skill gain tweaking is expected on a freeshard
5) Same with loot drops, rates, etc.
6) Same with PVP incentive and criminal punishments
7) No custom houses yet
8) A lot of people like weird hues for rare drops - ice staff? - but I can see the value in keeping it strongly in check
9) Mounts are pretty damn helpful and anyone doing PVP is going to have one - but so is everyone else - so basically they made the travel time slower for everyone and nerfed tamers, with no other outcomes? SOUNDS LIKE FUN
10) No blessed stuff is cool, it's one of the features of UO that is different from other MMOs.

So in all, I'm seeing a lot of stuff that's meaningless, should be expected at a minimum from a freeshard, or actually sucks. It sounds like 8 and 10 are a step in the right direction.

I'd hope to see them advertising cool reasons to get people to travel from town to town, reasons why people should visit multiple dungeons (higher skill gain while in dungeon is cool but I predict it resulting in people standing in quiet corners furtively tinkering), a schedule of GM events, lists of rare drops to salivate over (maybe with the rarest blacked out and mysterious!), staff-created multis for new houses, and the crapload of new craftables which is a big part of UO.

I guess if their intention is to offer a back-to-basics experience that could be cool. I've just found that going 100% by the books and not developing new stuff gets kinda boring :/

Then again maybe I just have a case of the ass about no mounts. That's just dumb.

I haven't played the game, but mounts are generally interesting to have around. Or at least speed up walking though areas you already know about.

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.

You generally don't carry the house deed with you. If you want to buy it and not place it right away, you can put it in your bank which is safe from other players. Then you get on in the dead of night, go to a tiny town nobody uses, get your deed out of the bank, recall to the site you picked out already, and plant the house. It should take seconds.

If you run around with a house deed in your pocket it's like having 50k to 1m gold just waiting to get stolen.

The runebook thing isn't an issue. You should be able to make copies of all your runes, so you will have a couple spares in case anything goes wrong. The main issue is that you generally have runes to cool places you don't want anyone else going, like a neat spawn you found or in front of your house. But depending on how easy it is to get into people's houses - such as with lockpicking - and how much they can do once they're in there - meaning, can they steal a locked-down furniture, do you store valuable materials in your house, how good are you at hiding those materials - losing a runebook might be little more than an inconvenience.

For example, let's say you can lock down a table and nobody can pick it up or break it. That's a pretty good security system: put a pouch on the floor, your metal or wood or whatever in the pouch, and lock down the pouch, stick the table on top, lock down the table. Even if they know the pouch is under there they can't access it.

You can also just keep a lot of crap in nested layers of chests, boxes, backpacks, bags, pouches. You know exactly where your good stuff is but it's possible nobody would bother looking through all that.

Part of the fun of the game is figuring out little tricks like these. They emerge not because someone coded them in, but because you can observe behavior in the game and you have enough control over stuff to be able to take advantage of it. It also means playing with friends is a LOT of fun, and having a mentor is pretty helpful.

Nah, the full H&H effect requires russians and the ruin of everything in the visible vicinity of your claimed land.

Only because you can't attack a house in UO!

But the Russians are there. The wave of East Europeans and South Americans came after UO's popularity began to wane, possibly because it was an MMO you could play on dialup on a Windows coal-powered furnace.

Ah! Thanks.

I'm starting up a blacksmith. If I can get a good ore supply I'll sell to B12 members at a discount.

I'm on the fence about this. UO was a lot of fun back in the day, but..."the day" was a previous century. Couple questions for those playing:

 * How populated is the server?
 * How vicious is the server? Shall I expect to be ganked the second I step otuside of town and watch as my items vanish from my bag the second I remove them from my bankbox?
 * Which worlds are present? Felucca only?
 * Which version of the house item-lockdown intruder-expulsion rules are in play?
 * Any Bay12 guild yet?
 * Razor or Steam? I've never used either.
 * Server is 3 days old. How probable is it that somebody who didn't start on day one and hasn't been grinding gold for 72 hours without sleep to reserve space will nevertheless be able to get good real estate at some point?
 * Are titles implemented? "DreadLord LordBucket" would be a bit redundant.

Yesterday I saw 600 on. Today it's close to 1000.

I got PK'd once in Covetous after getting a bit low on health. Only time so far.

Pretty sure it's only Felucca, yeah.

Not that I know of.

Using Razor. The server kicked me off for using UOSteam for some reason.

Hard to say. There's still plenty of room but the smallest houses are beginning to appear all over the place.

Ok. Decided toi give it a try. I'm in game as Jessica. First name choice was taken. I just saw Xanatos. I am lost. I don't remember how to name pets. The interface is just as klunky as I remember.

But I have cat, and am well on my way to becoming a crazy cat lady. I wonder if this is pre-5 pet limit.

Certainly, considering the last several posts. Dunno what however.
