Well, yes. I just meant that classical liberalism is not, in fact, what is called liberalism now, but the meaning was lost behind me trying to sound snappy. Thanks for the WoT, it was educational.

As a brief, slipshod explanation for Avis: Liberalism in the classical sense is and was the political doctrine of what we can think of as the western democracies from the Victorian era up through the inter-war period; it's associated with (as above) laissez-faire capitalism, the gold standard, individual liberties, and so forth. It's both less of an influence and less common as a basis for economic and political policy these days mostly because it took a lot of the blame (and rightly so) for the Great Depression.

Laissez-faire economic policies are largely a myth that we've projected onto the 18th century because politics has changed so much since then.  Liberals were for free trade?  Well except when they weren't, like most places that weren't ruled from London.  Against regulation?  Well other then slavery, child labor laws, workplace laws, regulation of food or whatever the local issue was.  Pro gold standard?  Well unless they wanted silver or they were introducing fiat currency.  Not to say these policies weren't supported by liberals frequently, but those policies weren't really what liberalism was about.  It's hard for a modern person living in the first world to understand what fighting aristocracy and guilds, reforming land ownership and changing the military system would mean to someone living back then.  But to people living here they were issues everyone would have an opinion on, like slavery, something much easier for us to understand.  That's why the constitution is so specific when it comes to the third amendment but so vague with the commerce clause.

May I suggest that you exclude from the publicly available spreadsheet the date of birth (or at least give the year only with no day of the month). It's a pretty specific bit of personal info in conjunction with other answers. More people might be encouraged to participate in the study (and give honest answers) if they had more reasons to feel truely anonymous.

I could separate the date and the year into separate columns and shuffle each column. That does mean a bit more work for me though :P

@ Birthdate discussion: You could just publish the age of the surveyed at the time they took the survey, eliminating all danger of revealing very personal data.

Except for those people with very peculiar ages, such as Xant, Flan, or that fetus in the corner there.

Mask a random selection as "Not Entered", and include any outlying ages in that group.
