You're just saying that because he has tentacles. That's racist.

Actually, his eldricht texts are pretty unclear about that. All they say is that "...the void about him reached out like two vast tentacles"

we need a name of a female wizard that is not necessarily inherently insulting. witches won't work, even if you're going puella magi it's nothing to be really proud of being

Wizard is unisex. Despite what most people will tell you. I just tend to use Sorceress/sorcerer or Magician anyway.
As is witch.

Isn't 'witcher' the masculine form?

I think advertising, as it's done in America today, is inherently unethical.

*stuff*
That's way too big a wall of text to give a proper response to, but overall I agree with ya.

Quote from: Chesterton
For, in order that men should resist injustice, something more is necessary than that they should think injustice unpleasant. They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

This is what the doctor says.

tl;dc: There wasn't a gender differentiation, for a little while.

See, this is why I'd suggested Wizard earlier and then Janet explained it much better. You don't have to worry about forms of witch or witcher or sorcereressery, just Wizard.

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.

Or Mage. Mage is unigender and sounds more professional. S'the little things like that that can make or break your application for a teaching position.

Personally I would go with Mage too. Wizard is fine, but Mage is the sweet spot. Magus for tax purposes.

For me, mage is to wizard as soldier is to warrior. Both are accurate, one just sounds more archaic. I imagine that hip young urban professional magic users call themselves mages while old fashioned beard and pointy hat types call themselves wizards.

Nah, the soldier vs. warrior dichotomy isn't as much about that as about the mentality behind it. It's just that warriors as such are pretty rare these days, because wars are fought predominantly by national armies--aka, by soldiers, combatants who fight based on training and discipline. The difference is between an army as a group of individuals with common cause and an army as a cohesive organism. At least, that's the impression I've received. You could even apply that in a slightly different way to this discussion; "wizard" tends to carry connotations of individualism and mysticism as opposed to organization and magic-as-science.
