UAC & Save File strangeness
« on: February 17, 2014, 08:37:46 pm »

Alienware m17x Winsows 7 64-bit
MDF v4h

1) Running MDF triggers UAC.  MDF v4f didn't.

2)
Seasonal saves enabled.
When I save between seasons, the save doesn't happen.  There is a direction in $DF/saves called current with the timestamp of the save, but the directory is empty.  This also wasn't an issue in MDF v4f.

Any thoughts?

Thanks again!

First I'd just try disabling any antivius and firewall and re downloading just in case of corruption during download and unzipping.  I've had strange issues like that in the past.

It does. The current folder is always empty. - It saves into the folder you loaded. So if you loaded "Region 5 - summer 31" and play one year (and its now summer 32) and save the game, your most recent save is in "Region 5 - summer 31".

Thats not a nice system, but its the vanilla DF system that I cant change.

To test my understanding...

If I load Region 1 - Summer 205, play through two seasons, and save, the order of save directories is:

region1-sum-205 (load)
region1-aut-205 (automatic)
region1-winter-205 (automatic)
region1-sum-205 (manual save)

That's exactly right.  I usually always load just region 1.   Then if I have a fatal crash or something I'll go find the latest automatic save, rename it to region 1, delete the other region 1 and just go from there.  I'll also periodically delete old auto saves on long running forts.  Less to look through and DF saves take up a surprisingly large amount of space.

The UAC triggers the alert EVERY SINGLE TIME I press play and asks if I want to allow the program to edit windows files (and the file is itself). Got so annoyed I had to turn off the notification.
