The soldier inclined his body forward to hear all that nonsense before someone finally seemed to voice their intentions.
"THANK DEFENDER' MOTHER OR SOMETHIN'. COME ON, YOU GUYS WERE CHATTING AT GUNPOINT OF SO MANY CROSSBOWS UNTIL OLD MAN ARMOR BEARD SPOKE UP!"
"BUT CONSIDERING YOU ARE ALL WEARING DIFFERENT OUTFITS, I AM VERY SURE YOU ARE A BUNCH OF MERCENARY, YEAH? WE HAVE BEEN GETTING LOTS OF THOSE KNOCKIN' ON THE GATES LATELY. SOMETHIN' ABOUT RUNDUM. BUT I WILL BE HONEST WITH YOU MAGGOT, WE AREN'T LETTING MORE PEOPLE IN BECAUSE OF THAT."
The red armored man moved a hand under his plated chin pondering about something.
"...ACTUALLY, NOW THAT I THINK ABOUT IT WE HAD BEEN DEALING WITH A LOT OF PEOPLE GOING NUTS IN THE CITY. SOMETHIN' ABOUT HAUNTED ARMORS, OR CRAZY CULTS, SO PERHAPS WE CAN STRIKE A DEAL HERE."

: "What sort a deal do ye have in mind?" the old priest shouted back.

"One of the greatest assassins and thieves ever used that trick, and legends say he was about Van's size. Yeesh. Just because I'm small doesn't mean everyone is."

The guard was addressing them, and Kat turned her attention to the apparent captain, speaking after Father Duvall did.

"Haunted armors? Sounds like Dullahans. They're totally harmless as long as you don't attack them first."

: "Considerin' all tha nonsense we've seen on this crazy journey, I wouldna be willin ta bet that there aren't *evil* haunted armors runnin' around."

"We also don't know that all of the Dullahans are friendly, mind you. If they're anything like humans, some of them are likely to be a fair bit fouler than the one we've encountered."

[Praefectus Screptum]

"THE DEAL IS VERY SIMPLE; WE HAVE WAY TOO MANY WEIRDOS GOING AROUND RAIDING PLACES AND BREAKING THINGS, YOU WEIRDOS ARE GOING TO WORK AS NIGHT WATCH GUARDS. YOU WILL HAVE A PLACE TO STAY, BUT YOU WILL HAVE TO KEEP AN EYE FOR TROUBLEMAKERS AT NIGHT."
The man gestured for the crossbow soldiers raise their weapons before he slowly opened the gates.

"ONE MORE THING. YOU WILL HAVE TO CARRY THESE TWO WITH YOU, I SAW ONE OF THEM BEING CHASED BY ONE OF THOSE CULTS, PLAGUE CULT I GUESS, THE OTHER CAME OUT FROM THE GOD DAMM GROUND, SO YOU CAN SEE THE ISSUE THERE. WE DON'T NEED A HAUNTED ARMOR GOING AROUND WHEN PEOPLE ARE ALREADY AFRAID."

"Better than not gettin' in. Hey there." Lycan greeted the armor and the person who'd been shoved into their group.

Aura waved at the crossbowmen in greetings until they raised their weapons, from atop the walls. Then she waved at the two new people they would be taking care of, checking to make sure the multiple spell books hanging by her belt were secure.

"Hi! What got you two all alone this far?"

[Praefectus Screptum]

"GOOD. NOW GET PRIVATE HORSE HUGGER AND PRIVATE ELECTRIC TIN CAN OUT MY SIGHT. I AIN'T BABYSITTING ANY MAGGOTS, AND YOU LADIES CAN STAY IN THE ARMORY. JUST FOLLOW THE PURPLE FLAGS AND YOU WILL GET THERE."
The soldier flung a gemstone towards Lycan before proceeding to speak.
"JUST SHOW THEM THIS AND THEY WILL LET YOU IN. AND PREPARE YOUR BOOTS FOR TONIGHT,  TRUST ME IT IS GOING TO BE A LONG ONE. STUPID CULTISTS."

"Feather got me here of course!" She patted her pegasus on the neck.
"I dunno about the armor though."
