Elend says this playfully with an exaggerated frown.

"Nah, if I meant to be mean it would have been a lot worse. Threatening you with an axe is the least I could do."

"I'll keep that in mind, then. By the way, since nothing really seems to be happening at the moment, what's your favorite type of food?"

"Uh... What? Did I miss something here?"

"I'm asking you about random things since I feel like it. Favorite color? Mine's dark grey-blue, as you can probably tell from my armor."

This ought to catch her off guard.

She sighs and clenches her jaw.

"This is ending either in the sack or with attempted murder. Or with both, just like a tavern romance."

"Yeah, no. The only sack that anybody will be ending up in a burlap one. They'll use it to hold the remains of your body once I'm through with you," Kaarina replies while glaring at Lycan. At least he's deflected her rage away from Eland for the moment.

Lycan grinned at Kaarina before turning to Elend to give her a reply.

"You don't wanna experience that, that's all I can tell ya for now."

He then repositioned to attack the closest enemy.
