I curfuffled a mood.
« on: February 17, 2014, 06:36:03 am »

Is there a way to reset a moods gathered items? or force it to complete? I seem to have curfuffled one of my important dwarfs moods by accidentally forbidding something he was retrieving while he was carrying it back and now he won't complete the mood (I even tried using the plainpacked glitch to get an extra of what he needed and it didn't help). Just to be sure I ran showmood in DFHack to make sure I did in fact have everything, and I do. Thank You for any help!

In a game like Dwarf Fortress, going to the wiki being cheating is like saying bringing a parachute is cheating for skydiving.

The problem you're encountering is one with the "which items does the dwarf have" functionality of showmood. It's partially broken and displays some item requestions as complete when they aren't. The "which items are required" display of showmood is accurate and reliable, so this is no suggestion to avoid showmood entirely.

Hover over the workshop with "t", check the contents and compare the list of items with the [TSK] tag with the item requirement list. The items you're lacking when showmood thinks you've got everything are usually bones.

If the dwarf's still in the collection phase, you can forbid carried items to your heart's content, it will not mess up the collection. The dwarf will merely bring the forbidden item to the workshop, drop it there and go get a replacement. If you reclaim the forbidden item, they may even claim it for their project again.

You can often even forbid items that already reached the workshop, even after work on the project has started, but that can/will remove ingredients from the final artefact. I'd definitely not trust showmood for advice in that situation.
