Let's Play Organ Trail (Forum-input Driven!)
« on: February 16, 2014, 10:07:54 pm »

Organ Trail: Director's Cut is a pretty awesome parody of Oregon Trail. It's quite similar, except for filled to the brim with zombies. I was in the mood for it, so I decided to dig it up and run an LP of it, because what could be more fun than having to put down fellow bitten forumgoers? D:

This first post is a bit long, and follows the introduction that goes exactly the same each time you play, since there are a few different inputs to get out of the way. Any questions in this post that need to be answered will be in bold! This post is a bit screenshot heavy as the introduction is long! As an aside, if it says "Quinn" in any of the text, it's because I needed to put a name in to continue the intro. You can make it whatever you want.
Spoiler: Brains? (click to show/hide)

After this, the real game begins. But first, to recap, we need to decide:
The names of our five travelers.
and How to allocate our twelve points towards supplies.

I don't know if this is common knowledge already, but I just noticed how much that dude with the nappy hair looked just a little bit like Jessie Eisenberg, then I noticed Woody, then hell, I had to search and I found this.

At least Wichita decided to turn around, but WTF happened to Little rock?
As far as names go I would suggest, Columbus, Tallahassee, Wichita, Little Rock, Shawn, and Gimmie a few mins to find out which character from the walking dead that is on the left.
Can't really find anything, but I think they really should have pixelised that chick from land of the dead with the leather and fishnet garb, rawr.

They're nearly as bad as badgers. Build a couple of anti-buzzard SAM sites marksdwarf towers and your fortress will look like Baghdad in 2003 from all the aerial bolt spam. You waste a lot of ammo and everything is covered in unslightly exploded buzzard bits and broken bolts.

Man. This game is even more awesome, Marc. I love Zombieland! Update later this afternoon. I need to figure out if I can save at the random events before making a decision, too.

I've played this before, so you should all throw me to the zombies because I'm gonna lie listen to me. That looks pretty good, although I would take off 1 hour of looking for money and put it into fuel. Money isn't very important in this, and running out of fuel is really annoying.

For future reference, The King refers to the king from Fallout: New Vegas.

Our hero, Columbus, along with his buddies Tallahassee, Notazom Bie, Shawn (Captain Falcon was too long of a name for the game...I mean seriously, who names their child Captain?), and Darth Vader all get ready to leave. They bring along darkpaladin's suggestion, but with Playergamer's suggested change, as well.

We've got 230 miles to travel to Pittburgh!

Spoiler: Stats (click to show/hide)

As we leave town, Notazom gets a bit bored, so we stop. We need to set a ration amount and pace...small, medium, large and slow, normal, fast, respectively. We can do any of the actions on these screenshots whenever...of note is speaking to strangers, trading, resting, and scavenging for food.
Spoiler: Menus (click to show/hide)

Once we decide on a pace and rationing of our food, we'll head onwards!

Medium, and Fast. Whenever Z-Density gets down to Low, scavenge AT LEAST two times.

(IIRC, Fast will make the car take more damage, but use less fuel. That might not seem like a great trade, but you get lots of scrap with pretty much every scavenging run, and fuel is worth a lot when you stall 20 miles from town.)

I think that's right. Food will stop sickness from happening as much, and improve overall health, at the cost of food. You need ammo to get food effectively (aka without dying).

No you don't, you just need to avoid the zombies, duh! I'm so much better at this even though scavenging without ammo is why my leader was the only one not to make it last time.

True, but Columbus sucks at scavenging! Or not, I guess he has good cardio.

I'm so happy that zombie apocalypse celebrities have joined our party, but I'd also like to point out that our hero is probably shawn, check out his garb on the front cover and even his sprite, white shirt, tie, blue pants, red hair.
He looks better on the directors cut cover, but he does look quite baddass with that cricket bat.
I support fast travel and whatever the other guys said,

Everything went pretty well on the way to the next city. Well, all things considered. It began to ran. And Shawn got sick. And we got lost on some roads for a while. But at least nobody was bitten!

We arrived at Pittsburgh, and they have a tire upgrade for $55 that will make our tires break less often. There are also two jobs we could take.

I can't save while in a town, so I'm just keeping my computer on with the game on mute. I believe I backed up the saves, so we'll see how this goes >_<
