We have a ship.

That seems sparse to the point of uselessness. Only one deck? No galley? No armory? Lounge? Shuttle Bays? Science Lab? Weapon emplacements? Boarding ramp? Holding cells? Airlocks?

I suggest looking around online for deck plans made by others and making modifications as needed.

Spoiler: For example (click to show/hide)

EDIT:
Although, the more closely I look at that particular image the more strange things I notice. For example, the turbo lift on deck four that doesn't attach to anything. The lack of shuttle bays. The fact that to go from the Deck two crew cabins to the rec room requires a trip through a turbo lift, walking the entire length of the ship from bow to stern through a cargo bay, another turbo lift, walking past the captain's cabin and heading all the way back from stern to bow.

So...odd, but with some edits, it would make a decent starting point.

[spoiler]

So it not bad for 5 minutes work i think.

but i should add more, i just not sure what we have.

i just not sure what we have.

Yes, a list of facilities is probably more important than, and necessary to draw, a map.

I think a few conceptual decisions need to be made. For example, is our ship capable of entering an atmosphere? If not, then we don't need wings but we do need shuttles. Or do we have star trek style transport technology? Are we using beam or missile weapons or both? Does our propulsion system use conventional fuel that needs to be stored somewhere? This is a FTL ship, so presumably it doesn't need large thrusters on the back and a stream lined front-to-back design is not required for structural integrity since we're not conventionally accelerating.

 * Crew quarters
 * Galley
 * Science lab
 * Observation lounge
 * Rec room
 * Cargo bays
 * Shuttle bays
 * Escape pods
 * Armory
 * Medical facilities
 * Engine room
 * Production/manufacturing area
 * Maneouvering thrusters
 * Airlocks/Docking bays
 * Bridge
 * Cryo stasis pods
 * Weapon/shield/sensor rooms, or are these in engineering?

What is the overall design intent for our ship? Is it a freighter with lots of storage? A troop transport with facilities to load/unload large numbers of soldiers quickly? Are we equipped to perform colonization and therefore require not only large storage areas but also capacity for large number of civilians?

We don't need to be aerodynamic but havening a minimal cross facing on our weapon face is a good idea.
Wings are easy to fit and let use mount a lot of weapons on/ in them, plus haveing a wing bird turn up fro the sky may just help us give a tribe of space caveman.

That depends. Are we sufficiently fast and maneouverable that reducing ourselves to only a single direction of fire is not a horrible design flaw, or are we a large juggernaut with rotary turrets?

Being able to shoot and move in only one direction is a massive hindrance when there is no up or down. A flying saucer design with omnidirectional thrust and rotary turrets both above and below would be more appropriate for space.

armed shuttles do that job better. they're more manuverable and can operate as high-quality gunships. it also saves us having to put big-ass wings on the main ship and can just put wings on the shuttles.

See, yeah...that's exactly the kind of design decision that needs to be made. Are we a slow carrier with fast fighters? That seems a completely valid design, but none of the three deck plans submitted so far have hangars and that I've seen, Svetlana is the only character with any piloting experience. I don't think we're a carrier.

My mental picture of the ship is that we're a dual purpose medium cruiser/troop transport with heavy guns and lots of science and scanning equipment. We're a FTL ship on a survey mission, so planetary landings are probably not a high priority. I lean towards thinking we're big enough that we're probably not capable of landing, and that we have shuttles for that purpose as well as docking ports to attach to larger vessels.

But all this is speculation. The ship post is as of yet unfinished.

I never said only one direction, and yes it is a flaw, but it lets us carry a larger weapon than turrets will.
It all depends on how our engines work and how big the ship need to be.

If we can carry shuttles / fighters then let give them wings and landing gear.

Lets just store the fighters on the out side of the hull.
Then they can piggy back the main ships FTL, don't take up much space inside, as we only need to have them in side for repairs.

Pilots will simply walk to there ship from the air lock with magnetic boots, climb in, connect up there air supply and decouple.

As a discovery ship rather than a combat vessel, we wouldn't necessarily even need armed shuttles. Maybe a design like from firefly: the shuttles are stored half-in the hull, and can be accessed via the inside of the ship. Requiring a space walk is a no, but a turret on each of the four 'sides' to take out asteroids and, if necessary, enemies, should be sufficient. Command them via the C&C, because frankly, if we lose that we're buggered anyway.

That seems less than ideal. It would make fast deployment and recovery of fighters difficult. It would mean that pilots could be picked off between airlock and fighter. It would have implications for repair, as well as cargo transport. I would much rather simply assert that we're large enough to have a hangar that smaller craft can completely fly in and out of.

HAving two bays in the basic idea would suggest two shuttles.

But...  we need 12 hangar bays.

So we can hang out in bay 12.

Also, is this still open?

Indeed.

I'll get to the deets about the ship in about an hour. I compounded on my existing notes throughout the day.
