Hello and welcome to a quite pixely Kingdom-Builder.
The specific Rules and mechanics will be provided as we come across them, but let me ease any worries of this being a number-crunching fest of endless tabels and discussions how to spend every last copper. The focus of the game should be nicely diverted between the protagonist and his, well, job. The system itself will mostly run in the background, as no-one is normaly interested in how many loafes of bread we have, unless there is a shortage. Obviously the Status and Abilities of the protagonist will be a different story, but I highly suspect that this will be forgiven...

[ISG] Of Blood & Power - Chapter 0.3

Chapter 0.3 - Race

… It is hot. Hot, and painful. You remember faintly that there was a reason for being merry the night before, but as you grasp at further memory, it eludes you. Slowly departing from the realm of dreams into reality, you try to gauge what is dream and what not. Still in delirious confusion, you wonder what you looked like again...

Pulling at the strings of your currently pained memory, you are sure to be one of these:

Goblin – Demonic Modifier
A cruel people, intent on carving out their place by all means available.
Cunning and twisted by their very nature, only bound by a few rules against their own.
Worshipping entities far crueler than them, guided in their efforts.

Lizardfolk – Traditionalism Modifier
Masters of lore and knowledge of old, heir to a tradition quite rich.
Abiding to the decrees set by draconic gods, and honouring them with temples as great.
Minds unchanging, except mayhaps by the hands of time.

Naga – Xenophobic Aggression Modifier
Intent on ruling all of the world which they call their own,
distrust towards those not of their race is ripe and strong.
Bolstering their strength while heeding the rulings of the firmament,
shying away from that which might weaken them.

Kobold – Racial Bond Modifier
Treading carefully, and seldom alone – weakness realized and compensated.
Scattered in hiding far and wide, leaving few traces.
Putting faith into ancestors, as death runs rampart among their rows.
Strong are the bonds forged by danger...

Trogglodyte – Autonomy Modifier
Unseeing ones living in darkness, coin their only master.
Crafty yet fair, their wealth shielding them from the horrors of war.
Relations that gift strength, but don't contain the warmth of friendship.

Hello and welcome to a very pixly game.Take your time and weigh the options - as the 0.3 implies there will be a-plenty, but each will be more or less important in their own right, and some can't do without the previous ones.

For those wondering about the "Modifiers" - One of the next choices will be how strongly the race values this. "Quite", "Exceptional", "Extreme" would be the levels.

Else, the choosen race will get a bit of a touch-up. And maybe even some clothes to wear, if I find myself in the mood for it.  :P (Nope, no arms. Don't even think about those. Doesn't end well, trust me...)

For those that have not read the OP, this will be some form of Kingdom-Builder. Minus the number-crunching (for you, that is), plus RP. Think something very loosely along the lines of Evil Lincolns "Let's Build" without the micro-managment... and "different" art. Do I need to say that it was partly inspired by his works? Well, now you know, and credit is given where it's due.

( +5 for Goblins, and nothing else... While it is good to have a clear-cut majority, I almost feel sad for the rest of the races~ ;o)

Chapter 0.6 - Roots

The confusion is lost, as you remember that you most certainly are a goblin, and what a goblin at that! The morning dusk is still heavy in your room, but you even can make out the tinge of your skin. As most races do, goblin skin comes in a variety, but even in your state you realize this one to be your own...

  ?

Choose your pick or ask for a new tint!
Eyes and skin-colours freely interchangeable.
Obviously, I might add.

While you being a goblin is an obvious realization, it is also a start out of this mess. Or so you hope. Yet, while still in fever and half-asleep, your mind betrays your intentions, and starts to drift again...

I

It flows towards your fellow people, an everyday scene in the slums. Faces you may or may not know come and go, actions and fears of your life repeated in that scene. It is – fitting for a dream – chaotic and far removed from normal procedure, but still a good portrayal of your people and how your society works...

A wagon of slaves is rattling down the streets, the humanoids within most likely forced into mines or other manual labour for live. A lone preacher tells about the visions he received from beyond, and garners some interest at the plaza. At the training grounds, a traitor is whipped bloody by the recruits, and will later be dragged through the city by a pack-animal.
Goblins are hateful creatures

A wagon of slaves is rattling down the streets, the humanoids within already in a sorry state. The beasts will have what will be left of them after a few months of working. A lone preacher tells about the visions he received from beyond, with a crowd gathering around him at the plaza. At the training grounds, a traitor is used for live weapon-training, and later will be sacrificed to the lords from beyond for his betrayal.

Goblins are demonic creatures

A wagon of slaves is rattling down the streets, the humanoids within already weeping for their fate. They will be taken at random from the mines, to be sacrificed in a ritual to one of the lords from beyond. A lone preacher tells about the visions he received from there, the surrounding crowd filling the plaza with bloodlustern cheers. At the training grounds, a traitor is openly tortured, with some youths joining in. The priests will take him later and patch him up - his sentence still far from over.
Goblins are diabolical creatures

II

Your dreams lead you astray again, to a scene of your childhood. Laughter of forgotten times, silhouettes long lost to the tidings of time. Emotions of youthful interest and ambition flood your mind for a while, remembering the games you played with these half-forgotten comrades. At one moment, your favourite activity of these times flashes by...

1 - You are lording over a weaker kid, undoubtedly having roughed him up previously.

2 - You move through the landscape on the outskirts of the city, searching for things of interest.

3 - You hear former playmates, roaring and laughing, as you lead the charge in a mock battle.

4 - You flash by some buildings, grasping tightly the treat you liberated in your juvenile mischief.

5 - You see yourself leaning over some scripture, entranced by the knowledge contained within.

III

The dream leads you further, this time to another period that moulded you into what you are today. Scampering along a familiar route – one you went untold times, no wonder you can see it so clearly even in a dream – you find yourself suddenly scolded at your place of schooling. You faintly remember making this blunder a couple of times in the first years – such a basic mistake that it would hardly happen to you now...

1 - You handled a weapon carelessly, cutting yourself in the process!

2 - You were too snide towards a person of much higher standing!

3 - You were scammed into paying premium for low-quality wares!

4 - You spoke the incantation unclearly, the spell going haywire!

5 - You forgot to feed the beloved mount of your instructor!

6 - You failed to change the offerings, insulting the lord in question!

7 - You let a customer in on more than what he had paid for!

Quote from: Choices this time:
Colour of the Protagonist
Tinge of Skin, Eyes - and even Teeth - can be choosen

I - Alignment-Modifier
Choose between Hateful, Demonic or Diabolical

II - Childhood Days
Option 1 to 5

III - Youthful Deeds
Option 1 to 7

Well then, these are the most choices you will get from me. I would like to split them up further, but then we would need another 0.x chapter. Our Protagonists colour may be open for discussion until we truly start, but just pointing out that we do have options for him.

Of especial note is the Alignment choice. Let it be said that I will try to remain tasteful in my writings. I will leave certain things up to imagination, whereas others won't find a place in here - Pretty much according to forum rules (Rules I really don't want to bend, you see?). Bu~ut, if you pick one of the later two options, there will be cruelty, torture and sacrifices. Also take a look at it from the tactical angle, instead of going for "the cool" choice.

I say the protagonist should have incredibly obnoxious and eye-searing gold skin. If not that, then red.

Oh look, I have a steam account.
Might as well chalk it up to Pathos.
As this point we might as well invoke interpretive dance and call it a day.
