Gen three was the first game where you select your starter from a bag (Essentially a menu.), seeing how the cursor, I think, starts on Treecko due to it's DEX number, there is a very good possibility of it being chosen.

FIRE STARTER IS ALWAYS BEST STARTER! Fire types are quite rare, after all. Also, fire is fire. FIRE!!!!!! Torchic itself (and it's evolutions) also have almost a 100% saturation of attacking moves by leveling. In the chaos of TPP, that is nothing to scoff at. I mean look at this. It's like they had TPP in mind when they designed it.

As long as they don't pick Mudkip. Boring water type. And a 4x weakness to grass when it evolves. Not worth the extra bulk. Plus, this is gen 3. Water all over the place.

Even with all this water, Treeko is a dangerous choice. It only learns 2 grass moves by leveling, and has false swipe as it's final move. FALSE SWIPE! That's multiple disasters waiting to happen. Also, grass types are really easy to get.

Anyways, that's my two cents.

Blaziken is by far the fastest fire type in Hoenn.

Also, the cursor for starter selection starts in the middle, on Torchic.

Actually, vulpix can be caught at Mt. Pyre, and Ninetails is faster than Blaziken.
