It really isn't though. Brian got that name specifically in reference to Monty Python's Life of Brian, in reference to the fact that it is not Gen 1's Bird Jesus. In particular, this bit.

The theme of the run might be of aitheist one, but even if pokemon are not worshipped there is always one god, foul and terrible. It's will is sacrifice and it's language is blood. All pokemon, whether worshipped as gods or heroes dread to hear it's name. It is why you fear the pokecenter. Before it all pokemon are merely pawns. In the darkness of victory road you keep hearing it's whisper.
