You may have already ballsed it up. See if you have any connections with breeders, you need to regen with a new generation of hamsters and create a new hamster entity with anvils and digging tools enabled. There is also the issue of vermin civs being rather unstable, but nothing's stopping you from starting ant fortress or bee fortress.

I had an ant fortress once. Sadly most of them died when they got stuck in some jam I gave them to eat.

My ant fortress dug too many tunnels and there was a massive cave in crushing everyone in the main compartment. The remaining two ants spent their days digging out the bodies and making an ant graveyard. It was heartbreaking and inspirational to watch:(

I'm almost done with the anvil, then I will make a helmet and a pick. Pics will follow shortly.

Don't hamsters have the natural ability to dig thanks to their claws? Unless you're putting tiny rocks in the cage, the pick's overkill.

The only good hamster is a Giant Space Hamster, although Minature Giant Space Hamsters are pretty bad ass too.  But you don't get much spaham off the miniature variety.

That's what DF needs, The gutbuster brigade.  Screw that elf and his cat. Thibbledorf Pwent is the real hero.

Oh right, you can't queue it up on the butcher's list because it's a pet. Pen/pasture it in your front yard to serve as early warning against ambushes.

Side note: this made me think, how would pause/recenter work irl?

You need to buy the dwarfiest of animals so that it can have a proper role model.

Mustaches don't go above the snout either.

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

Look past the mustache; it has hair on its chinny chin chin and is also rocking some pretty awesome sideburns.
