This game is closer to DF than most "clones" and still has its own thing going. I think it was the only DF-inspired game that I liked.

I was definitely inspired by DF, although I never intended to make a clone. I'm not really into heavy management games like DF or Gnomoria, that's why KeeperRL has light management with added exploration, conquest, etc. Btw, today I had the idea for a ship/crew management game where you sail the oceans, explore islands, etc. It would make a nice add-on to KeeperRL  :D

Anyway, I've spent some time working on the "looks":

Huh.  Am I the only one who just floodfills the room with whatever furniture it needs?  Nice-looking places are nice, yeah, but increase travel time.

Torches are interesting too.  Penalties for poor lighting?

I could lower the productivity of minions working in the dark, but it would be kind of silly. I'd have to add a warning for that, and you'd be searching around for that one dark tile. What do you think?

I think if you were to give the light sources a fair cost (rather than just 1 wood) they could increase the cost/difficulty of expansion, which IMO is a good idea.

It turns out that torches do have some actual use. I destroyed the ones lighting the training room for the elf attack and now the elves can't see the goblin, but the goblin can see the elves and happily shoot arrows at them. If he had some blindness potions for ammo, they would soon be falling off the bridge and drowning. The things behind the door are barricades, also new.

WinXP, grabbed the latest alpha yesterday.  Not working: couldn't see anything but the "Dismiss" on the main menu, have managed to fumble-click into the game twice and it's unplayably laggy (input every 5-6 seconds) with fonts scrambled.

Sorry.  :-(
