New delovg !

"As you might have noticed, not much was going on here in December and January. Indeed, I took a two month break from working on KeeperRL. This was planned well in advance, but I feel I didn’t announce it loudly enough, and some players were confused and worried. Sorry for that. But now I’m back! And the development of KeeperRL continues under full steam.

I had some time to think about the future of the game, and decided that it’s the right time to move forward with a major feature that I’ve been planning for over one year: the campaign mode. I call it that, but the idea is actually a little bit different from campaigns found in similar games. You’ll get a first taste of it in Alpha18, but here’s a short summary:

- You’ll be building one base throughout the whole campaign.
- There will be an overworld map with locations that you can ‘zoom’ into. Each location will be a separate map the size of about 1/4 of current maps (area-wise).
- You’ll be able to travel to any location while controlling a team of minions, but your base will be limited to your starting location.
- Every major enemy will occupy a separate location. Of course you’ll be free to take your minions and fight the enemies, and they will attack you back.
- The enemies will include bases built by other players and shared via the server, with their inhabitants controlled by AI.
- Not everything out there will be hostile. Trading and alliances are planned.

The purpose of the campaign mode is to increase the length of play, and to include more player-generated content in the game. I know you guys build better dungeons than my proc-generation!

Later on I will announce another major feature, and altogether it should move the game to completely new grounds. In any case, it will be material for versions Alpha19 and later. I’m sure you’ll be very excited to see all of this. I am!

Now off to work! I hope you guys have some patience before I can come up with Alpha18"

KeeperRL is a Dungeon Keeper and Dwarf Fortress inspired dungeon simulator built on top of roguelike mechanics. My vision is that you are a Sauron-like character, searching for ultimate knowledge of destruction. What makes the game different from other RTS is that you can, and are encouraged to, control your main character and lead your minions to an open war. The characters use equipment, scrolls, potions, spells, and other things you would expect in a roguelike. Combat is turn-based and very tactical. The whole world is procedurally generated, and there is adventure mode too.

First impressions are pretty good, the idea that despite having an overhead view of things you are a physical entity in the world that you can directly control is pretty cool. You can also possess creatures much like in dungeon keeper, except it play a bit more like a roguelike at that point (You can "posess" yourself too)

I started off and mined out some iron, but it was taking forever so I strted wandering around as my keeper. I found a road and auto-followed it straight into a human keep of some sort. I was in too much of a panic to react so I just ran. Fortunately trees block sight but you can still move through them so I lost them, however I had been injured by them when i stumbled through their front door. Assuming that some mushrooms I had picked up were just healing mushrooms I ate it.

Still getting used to the way the game works, good thing there's an easy mode =p

Okay, just completed the game on easy. It's pretty difficult to get your troops to go exactly where you want them to go, as they'll just rush at enemies one by one instead of waiting in ambush like I want them to.
I don't know if it's true for all difficulty levels but the enemies just rushed my base wave after wave and let me slaughter them. I should have to go to their base and kill their leader to win, shouldn't I?

I also have to fiddle with the game a bit more and see if I can figure out how creating weapons works, apparently I only made 2 in the entire time I played, but lots of armor. Hmm.

Spoiler: Victory (click to show/hide)

Time for adventure mode =p

EDIT: Apparently acid jelly can corrode and melt you even when shooting it form afar with a bow...

Seems really good for a game only initially released a few months ago. Dungeon Keeper is one of my favourite games so this is great for me. Very excited to see further development on this.

Oh look, I have a steam account.
Might as well chalk it up to Pathos.
As this point we might as well invoke interpretive dance and call it a day.

Is the "c" like a little chubby or something? Or a chin? I'm having a hard time figuring it out so I would appreciate the halps.
