Also, in Keeper mode, I posessed a creature and bit off a horses arm.

Downloading now.

EDIT: Question. Is this really demanding on your system, or could it be run on an older computer without too much difficulty? My newer laptop doesn't have a numpad, which I think would really come in handy here, but my old one is nearly 6 years old and it was only $200 new, so... not exactly a great machine for gaming.

It doesn't exactly have high system reqs, no*. And a numpad would indeed be pretty useful, for adventurer mode or when possessing stuff... not even sure if it's got hjkl or whatever support, though you might be able to get by just using numbers, I'unno.

*To put it another way, it's using maybe 1-2 ghz of processor (about 40-50% on my dual core 2.1 ghz) and ~90 megs of ram, when active. Probably gets a bit bigger as the game progresses, but not much. Not a heavy program, at all.

a bit of a pain...but you can move and do actions with the mouse too. So a numpad is not ~essential~.

It doesn't have a subordinate keys numpad even?
Most any laptop has a set of keys in numpad-like configuration on the right half of the main keyboard, but they have to be toggled on with the function/fn key.

In anycase, yes, old hardware, no problems at this point.

Personally, I don't think there's a half decent Roguelike out there that can't run on a 10 year old computer. (This doesn't include bastardizations of the term being used to mean procedurally generated...)

Eh, the latest ToME can have trouble at times. Handful of newer roguelikes (generally that eschew the whole ASCII thing, but there's exceptions even then) can get pretty graphically and/or processor intensive, as amusing as that ever is. Then there's a few that aren't exactly graphically intensive, but what they do use isn't compatible with older video cards/drivers.

Point being there's more of 'em that don't play well with old/weak rigs than there used to be, I guess. This'un definitely isn't one of 'em, though. Yet, anyway.

No numpad at all. My old laptop has one that you need to use the Fn key to access, but this one has none whatsoever. It's a Dell XPS 15z, also known as "one of the worst laptops ever created, and if only I had bought it in this country instead of having it brought to me from America, where it was cheaper, I would have returned it immediately and gotten something that isn't such a giant, overpriced pile of shit." There is no numpad, the keyboard is shit in general, it has a very powerful processor and pretty good graphics card but only one tiny little fan and a useless heatsink that just sits on top of the hot parts of the hardware, so I can't even run Starbound without overheating after a while (and that's in the winter, when I keep the apartment cold - in the summer I can't play games at all). I have actually burned my fingers by touching the computer just above the keyboard (where the "heatsink" sits) while trying to run a 3d game. The trackpad software doesn't work, the wifi controller barely works (and only sometimes), and even the "chrome" edging is just plastic painted with cheap silver paint which has already rubbed off in many places. The coup de grace is that the case was designed to not be opened, and you have to rip certain pieces apart to get inside, to clean out the dust or try to figure out what the fuck the creators of this thing were smoking when they designed it.

It was $1500.

In other words, I'll never buy a Dell again for the rest of my life, and if I ever manage to save up enough money to buy a new computer again, I will get one designed for gaming which has good customer reviews...

But that's not likely to happen for a long time, so I'll have to see if my old Inspiron 1525 can handle KeeperRL. I used to be able to play DF on it okay - I would manage around 50 FPS if I kept the embark area at 2x2. It's actually a very good computer despite being outdated, which is why I foolishly thought it would be a good idea to buy a Dell again this time around.

Nice rant, lol.  ;D
Can't offer much support for the hardware, but can offer a suggestion: USB keyboard.

I will refine that even more and suggest just a USB numpad. They tend to be pretty cheap online

Eh, I've seen numpads going for as much as basic keyboards when I've looked before.

Electronics tend to run expensive where I live (and shipping from other countries is ridiculous), but I'll have a look around. I've considered it before, but there are just so many other things higher up on my list of "things I really want but don't absolutely need" that I could never justify doing it. Money is somewhat tight. : (

In any case, sorry to have derailed the thread. I'll try it on my old laptop first, and if that works, I won't worry about upgrading this one. Much rather save up as much as possible until someday I can afford a new, non-shitty computer. : )

Hi,

I've fixed a number of bugs in the game, including:
- clicking outside the map crash
- clicking on maxed-out tech crash
- crash when enemy enters the dungeon or triggers a trap
- acid jelly passive attack when attacked from distance bug

I'd like to make another release soon with all bugs fixed and some small new features included. Let me know if you encounter any more bugs, especially the weird-pausing thing, as I'm not sure whether it was related to one of the crashing bugs.

There are two more possible bugs, one with attacking the elf lord while controlling a creature, and the other about pathfinding. If you get an in-game error message, please post a screen shot or send the line to me. Thanks!

Frustratingly I was not able to reproduce the elf lord crash I got several times in the last version after 3 tries.

That was a completely illogical statement.

Keep up the good work!

Finally gave this a try, it does work on my old laptop. It's fun, although I'm getting a weird glitch right now where all my imps have converged on one square, apparently all trying to do the same job (moving materials to storage), so they're all just standing there. No one will mine or build anything, and I don't have anything else set up yet, so time is just passing by while they all stand there. I can't find any way to reset them, and I can't possess them. I can't even find a way to kill them. So I guess I'm just waiting for someone to come raid me and murder me, since I can't summon any creatures or do any research or even build any beds or anything.
