I'm assuming you need to know spells to be able to enchant stuff?

Also, the weird mute mage-child just happens to both have full access to the key, and is nice enough to give it away?
I have a horrible feeling about this.
There aren't any corn fields near town, are there?

Ok, if I see and eldritch horrors I'm bombing first asking questions later.

Corn is unable to grow in this forest. Do not worry about children of the corn

Can I read runes? Summoning and pantheon are both ancient and would be written down in rune.

I can still use my mana right?

I will get to mana in a second. You could read the runes.

Just note that the runes on Kyle's lock box are not a summoner's runes or ancient.

Oh, say, it just occurred to me.  Did we actually stop the caravan inside the town or just outside of it?

Mana doesn't recharge. Not a nerf to Torban. Nerf to all magic users until outside of the mist.

And yes Culise, we did stop the caravan outside of town.

Luckily for me then I prepared for this when the bodies were missing :).

This is why I need to make a bunch of Faustian contracts. I will be like the dragonborn and trick the demon princes into deals for my soul and then they'll realize I promised it to all of them. That is sure to be fun.
I'm pretty sure the demons have decent book-keeping skills.
Agreed.  I'm expecting the Pratchettian response to Pascal's Wager - his soul wakes up surrounded by a circle of demon princes with various weapons, eager to show him what they think of "Tricky Richard" in these parts... :P
Wait, how do Pratchet, Pascal, and Richard fit into this?

You need the Enchanting skill.
Hello.

And what's been going on lately? I don't think I've managed to figure out what's been going on since the sparring or so.

Very strange town with no people or corpses. The town appears to be ancient and the mages guild appears to be the only good building in the town. Also, this is the last Tutorial plot before Actual plot begins.

It's a joke from one of Terry Pratchett's books that I recall, because it makes fun of Pascal's Wager.  Basically, the gods don't like people who game the odds when those odds involve them - they much prefer to be the ones gaming the odds themselves.  So, that's essentially how they respond to the Pascal-analogue who proposes the Wager in the Discworld after he dies.  I'm basically comparing that instance of gaming the odds on the afterlife to Kyle gaming the odds with demons and his soul.  "Tricky Richard" is just me substituting for "tricky Dick," since that wording struck me as twice-meaningful with Kyle.  ^_^

Why didn't Kyle understand the pirate rune?

Pirate captain was needed. It's a runic language that Pirate captains use to mark where the good treasure is.
