Sectoids aren't horrifying enough to be in the 40k universe.  I'd say the closest match would be the Tau, because they're physically unimposing and their leaders have implied mind control (it was added to make them more grimdark).  And cyberdiscs are sort of tank like?  Still a bad fit.
Cyberdisks are hovertanks, of course. Which probably makes sectoids the Eldar, and Sectopod's Wraithlords.

Also, the Tau are probably the second scariest faction, behind the Eldar. Space Communists will murder you with stealthsuits :P.

I'm leaning towards the entire alien army being a Tau splinter sept of some sort, seeing that they need Ethereals (snicker!) to keep pretty much everyone else under control :P

The eldar's whole thing is being individually super-competent.  The Tau are small, have short lifespans, and accomplish things as a group.

Also, why are those your pick for most horrifying?  Eldar and Tau are the closest things to good aliens that exist in 40k.  Which is to say, not close at all.  But at least they are simply apathetic to humanity's demise, not actively trying to cause it.

You misspelled seance.  Are possessing Draignean?  Are you actually a ghost in the shell? You have to tell us if you are, that's the rule

The Tau are more irritating than anything. They have long-range weapons and lots of cloaking. The Eldar, though, can cloak almost anything, can appear from anywhere, and can murder anything in five seconds flat. They have all those fire dragons and fire prisms and such. Then, when you try to hunt them down, you can't figure out just where they hide, and in the meantime they're attacking your everything.

Mission 6: Operation Fading Blade, Part 1

Spoiler: Part 1: (click to show/hide)

4 neophytes, 6 xenos. How will this end? Tune in next time to find out!

IMO Tau is probably the closest 40k faction to the alien threat in XCOM, considering they're pretty much the only faction to incorporate multiple xenos races in their social hierarchy, and that's essentially what the XCOM aliens have done.

Damn your eyes, Commander, I'm not being one of those lazy jerks who sit around with medkits instead of real weapons! Treacherous alien scum!

In my experience, Assaults and Supports get most of the kills, with snipers a close second.

My snipers always end up with the most. Guess it depends on your playstyle.

In any case, I'm shocked you managed to fight that Outsider for so many rounds without losing anyone. Those bastards are as bad as thinmen when it comes to picking of rookies!

Most of my kills always come from my Scoped Heavy shooting.

Probably because they both use the exact same weapon.

True, but it is also a basic stats thing. Floaters use the same gun, too, but aren't nearly as deadly with them.

Still working on that.. at least this successful UFO mission lets us trade some sectoid corpses for recruits :3

My snipers do end up having the most kills too, mostly due to In the Zone :D
As for the Outsider in that last mission, I don't exactly know what happened. In fact, starting from Altasian's run + grenade move, the aliens were oddly content to sit back and overwatch. When it came to fighting the Outsider, it took one shot (the one which missed Henderson) and after that it just sat in cover while our dudes got into position to kill it outright.
