LOL at the hellish maze of mines between the chasm and lava.

[If i were you i'd dig out large 7x7 sections to seal it off perminately; i think enemies can destroy statues and thus get through and into your fort that way.]

And i'm guessing the two yellow-colored Statues are gold? Well done.

I'm curious, what is the reason for dumping the lava into your water? Does that somehow prevent river-based invasions?

Is there a reason that you are trying a ballista to kill them instead of piping water over to their side of the lava and flooding them?

When lava and water meet, they produce scalding steam, which is something like a forcefield that can be used against creatures which are not immune to fire (not sure about the fire immunity bit tho)

Alright, that makes sense, but how does (he? she? what pronoun does SynthOrange use?) use that little sector of steam up north to protect the whole river? Is a system of lava-delivering floodgates in the works?

Channels and floodgates deliver liquids, and both water and lava can flow through them. Lava beats water though. The steam is deadly, and I'm relying on it to cook any beasts that come down the river.

And yup, gold statues.    :D Got a couple of silver ones, and a single platinum statue too. Set up lots of traps around it incase anyone gets any bright ideas.

Click for bigness

Digging like a mad dwarf. More arrivals keep turning up at our doorstep. Some get turned into a squishy paste, like the kobolds, goblins and antmen. Even more useless nobles showed up, and they now have the gall to charge my dwarves even for the right to sleep in a bed.

You know, I'm sure your peasant dwarves would not take it too poorly if a miner were to "accidentally" channel some of that lava into the worthless nobles' quarters...

Just saying.

We went too far, and 40 dwarves perished fighting off the demons of the deep.

If you can call this a victory... A whole heap of dwarves are injured and crippled and the mood around the fortress is generally sour. Blood and gore still covers most of the place and the dwarves are turning on each other. We beat the demons, but I dont think the fortress can stand the internal discord much longer.

(click for full size)

The last mine was a lost cause. Dwarf was turning on dwarf and the halls were awash in blood. (hey, there's an idea, doormats!)

Unfortunately something BAD may happen to this one. An entire caravan was slaughtered to the last dwarf by zombie elephants. I hope their fellows dont come blaming me for their disappearance.

You seem to have a thing for curves, Synth.

Should try and make a challange in the challenge list thread where the only rooms you can create are circular, without strait passages. (ex: a hallway would be a string of circles)

So how well did the boiling river work? Did it really stop snake/lizard/frogmen ambushes from the river?
