((Arright, I'll express my disapproval of that idea about artillery shooting anyway. We can shoot down to scraps early planes, because they are most likely to be made of wood, and we're totally wasting bullets on shooting massive steel artillery units with LMG.))

((You entirely fail to appreciate the amount of damage a bullet can do to important parts of the artillery piece that aren't solid metal three inches thick. Like crew, aiming mechanisms, and instruments. Not to mention any exposed ammunition. It's not an effective means of attack (as the most vulnerable part, the crew, is likely to take cover and is easily replaced), but it's far from entirely useless.))

Who's to say they're massive steel emplacements? I'm imagining trenches full of infantry (the "entrenchments" and a few AA guns, which have to be exposed. Besides, do you want those to take us out as we leave?

The plane is slightly stiff in turning - nothing unmanageable, but it is certainly noticeable. You probably need to whine about it when you get back... If you do.
Gun plane one dives in a sweeping arc over the artillery entrenchments - those are really just rows of heavy cannon, half-hidden behind a wall of stout masonry - designed to protect the guns from being fired on by ships, not from above. There's nobody near except a single lookout.
[4] As the plane tilts, Charleston aims his gun down and fires, spraying lead all over the cannon. The lookout is thrown flat on his back. I would tell you about how his eyes stare blind into the skies above, his face suddenly devoid of life, but you're too high to see all that, so hey.
Wilkinson continues his turn toward the airfield.

Height: 100 m
Speed: 65 km/h
Fuel: 3 hrs 10 mins
Ammo: 6 and 3/4 mags


Bomber:

Fly towards the barracks while avoiding getting shot.
"I'll ready the bombs!" Pull the bombs out and throw them at the boats if possible.
It turns out the DN-3 is also slightly slow to gain speed - again, there are worse examples, but it's not what you'd call exemplary.
Theodore directs the bomber right across the bay, over the ships and to the barracks buildings on the shore, slowing slightly for Kelly to throw the bombs, then speeding up again.
[3] Kelly gets two 5 kg charges out of his box, arms them - there's a little pin behind the tail fins - then chucks them over the side. One crashes down onto the deck of a smaller ship, detonating with a resounding boom. It looks like it didn't pierce through the planking, but there's now a huge hole in it. But you bet that the baddies know you're here now, or you've just unknowingly launched an assault on the one and only Deaf Serviceman's Naval Base.
The bomber is now near the barracks.

Height: 80 m
Speed: 70 km/h
Fuel: 3 hrs 10 mins
Ammo: 8 5kg, 2 10kg


Gunner#2:
"Barracks and Kites first. Got it!"
Make a broad turn around the barracks and the airstrip, turning at an angle which allows my gunner to shoot from one of the sides out to the barracks.
Let's go for the barracks and get those planes first. If you make a nice broad turn past the gun emplacement there, and then continue in a long low turn following the shore. Should give me a decent shot.

If possible, open fire at emplacement, then at the barracks, then the planes.
Wyrson swoops down along the airstrip, past the Kites and their hangar to the barracks beyond, while Schwartz operates the murder tube - serious business, that.
[6] A hail of bullets rains down onto the stationary Kites. One gets its complex system of struts and beams utterly borked - its wing falls off, shredded into cheddar cheese. The other seems all right at a glance - a figure in Rahu dress whites - what, did you just crash some national holiday? - is running toward it, pulling goggles down as it hurries on. More worryingly, the prolonged fire makes the pintle and the whole wooden frame of the boat vibrate.
[1] The plane cruises along over the barracks, and Schwartz decides to forgo caution and continue firing. That turns out to be unwise - the bolt holding the pintle mount in place falls out because of the vibration, and the gun jerks up in his hands. [reaction:5] He releases the trigger and steadies the machine gun before it messes something up. It's heavy, though, and will probably be terribly uncomfortable to fire without a mount.

Fuel: 3 hrs 10 mins
Ammo: 6 and 1/4 mags

Carefully put down the gun, grab the flare gun and fire at the nearest flammable thing. The barrack's roof if it's a thatch roof or something flammable, the kite if it's not.

Gunner #1:

Take a look down to get a picture of artillery line. Just in case. Then get ready to shoot whatever enemy forces below on our way to the hangar.

The cannon are pretty ordinary medium-caliber things; there are about twenty of them in the line, mounted on swivel platforms behind a low stonework wall. Nothing much seems to be happening over there.
When Wilkinson and Spade get there, the Kite has already taken off; another is rolling out of the hangar. There is no gunner on the one in flight.
[1] Chester aims his gun: it spits out a measly few bullets and jams - Renan guns do that sometimes; not very often, though. Some shit luck there.
The gunner-less Kite gains height rapidly as Wilkinson's plane passes over it. It is on your tail now, and the distance is waning.

Height: 100 m
Speed: 65 km/h
Fuel: 3 hrs 10 mins
Ammo: 6 and 1/2 mags


Gunner #2:
Delia swore that she heard something come loose back in the gunner's seat.
"You okay back there?"
Carefully put down the gun, grab the flare gun and fire at the nearest flammable thing. The barrack's roof if it's a thatch roof or something flammable, the kite if it's not.
Delia turns away from the control stick while she waits for Robert to reply; he doesn't, being too busy.
[1] He loads a red flare into the launcher and fires it pointing down.
The flare's little rocket motor fires a pathetic burst - just enough to make it clear the barrel - and then just tumbles out. It is swept into the wing struts, where it promptly gets stuck. And then its motor reactivates. Now, the struts are metal wire, but this is a serious fire hazard. And something about the idea of flying with a giant red bonfire beneath one wing worries you.
The plane sails over the barracks and loses some height, since Delia is not currently watching it.

Height: 90 m
Speed: 70 km/h
Fuel: 3 hrs 10 mins
Ammo: 6 and 1/4 mags

Bomber:
Carefully pilot the plane and avoid getting hit.
"Bombs away! Throw bombs at barracks.
[1] Kelly arms another bomb; as he removes the pin, he hears a tell-tale hiss - a faulty detonator, igniting on a slight impact instead of, well, detonating on a powerful one. He yelps and chucks the bomb over the side, where it falls some tfifteen meters down and blows up.
The blast wave buffets the flying boat's wings, but it withstands the force admirably, not even creaking, even though the impact throws it upward, pointing it into the sky nose-first.
[1] However, when Theo tries to steady it, his hand slips, making the plane tilt its nose even further up instead of bringing it back down. The wings cannot provide enough lift at this angle of attack, and the plane begins losing altitude rapidly.
He can see that some people are running out of the barracks, toting guns. Some of them are wearing dress whites, some are half-naked, and most are rather unsteady on their feet.

Height: 60 m
Speed: 60 km/h
Fuel: 3 hrs 10 mins
Ammo: 7 5kg, 2 10kg
