First World Problems--DF Style
« on: February 06, 2014, 10:52:13 am »

I want to start a new fort in Dwarf Fortress.  But the new version could be out any day now.  But I want to play.  But I would need to make a new fort.  Maybe I SHOULD make a new fort, because by the law of perversity, Toady will be done and the new version will come out. Then again, trying to game the LoP into working in one's favor almost never works.  Anyone else having this?  Are you waiting, or saying 'screw it' and playing anyway?

Well, I've just started and I'm enjoying vanilla DF immensely, I will just start over in the new version, despite the fact my fort is going well atm, 2nd one and still alive, after about 100 dwarf casualties over a course of a few years (migrants are STILL coming in spite of the danger lol). Since forts usually have a short life if you make a mistake starting a new game can last you from a few minutes to a few weeks :D

If you're that worried you'll be forced to start over, try the challenge with the evil-good biome and aquifer, it shouldn't take too much of your time :D : http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=133272.105

Btw, what's the new version supposed to bring?

Cheers

But the new version could be out any day now.

New version could be any month now. And after the release it will have some bugs. So don't bother waiting.

The fortresses are penal colonies.
The mountainhome has far too many degenerates too deal with by itself, so it sends out minor nobles to establish penal colonies across the world.

This.  As much as I'm anticipating the new version, I'll stick with my current fort for a bit while the bugs get worked out.

What? This thread again?
Ok, consider this:
What if there will never be a next version? What if Toady will not finish it in any foreseeable future? Data loss, unfortunate bus, sudden loss of interest in PC gaming, whatever...

Just keep it in mind and enjoy what you have. If you want it faster - go donate or start your own DF clone... New threads will not help.

I actually started a similar thread a few weeks ago. I have the same problem but my main reason why i dont play right now is that i fear ill loose interest when the new version comes out because im burned out on DF because i know everytime i didnt played DF for a long time it will get back to me and i will play the carp out of it for 3 days or so.

Also i am so freaking pumped for the "advanced" adventure mode. Oh God, not again... I CANT WAIT NOOOOOOOOOOOO

This thread is why I love dwarf fortress. We start at engravings of wagons and end up using necromancy to raise them from the dead, and were-wagons.
I jumped off a ramp in a cave and exploded.
