A few years ago the King of the Golden Kingdoms was assassinated by his younger son and his position usurped. The Golden Kingdoms are now known as the Iron Empire and are ruled by the usurper.
Things have certainly changed. Technology has become quite advanced thanks to the repeal of technological suppression laws. Races like kobolds and goblins have found that their lives have improved, while other races such as elves have found that their lives have gone downhill quite rapidly. Quality of life has gone down for some, up for others. You don't really care about this stuff. You aren't a political person.
You are a guard for the Iron Empire. You do your best at this job. Earn a decent pay. It's peaceful enough, apart from the drunks and the rabblerousers and so on and so forth. Good things can't last forever, though. You've heard tales of rebellion in the outer districts. You hear a name almost constantly in the taverns: the "Adamantine Rebellion". It doesn't sound good.
You are currently sitting in the barracks, rows of beds just behind you. You yourself are sitting at the table filling out paperwork. The other fellows always leave you with the paperwork. You come across a bit of paperwork that is part of an attempt at creating a profile for each guard within your regiment, and it is asking for a profile on you. You decide that you are best qualified for this task, and begin to fill it out.
