Sounds good. Or if it isn't too challenging, you could go with the ten players you have now :P. It's a consistently rounded number. But it's all up to you in the long run.

So, let me understand this a little better. If we want to build off of the designs or research of other players, we have to attempt that in turn two?

Well probably even later. You have to steal / acquire them first (in the case of designs). Besides, it's not working of the research of other players, it's researching the research of other players. Megacorps aren't big on this open source thing.

Because of the numbers of applicants, first come, first served would benefit a majority of players. Therefore, in the case of a vote, the latter method wins.

Sadly, this is not a democracy.

Besides, in every situation where there're more players than waitlisters, every player selection mechanism will be preferred by the ones chosen by it, who will constitute majority.

Unless there's more than twice the number of player slots in applicants. Then a method which gives everyone an equal chance will win a vote.

Turn 1

Katavis Star works

Spoiler: Unknown Ship (click to show/hide)

You decide on a steel structure, and use liquid powered engines for the needed thrust. You include a large 2 man cockpit, and life-support for additional crew. The heavy armor, and  FTL drive weight down the ship a bit, making it somewhat sluggish. It can catch up to most older fighters, though it will have trouble to take on newer models. It's unfortunately, pretty hard to produce, taking significant time and resources.

Spoiler: Research (click to show/hide)

Monolith Industries

Spoiler: Research (click to show/hide)

Leviathan Corporation

Spoiler: Unknown Ship (click to show/hide)

You make a simple interceptor capable of fending for itself against most pirate ships. It's armed with a single, strong laser cannon, has a small liquid engine for power, and has a single person cockpit for control. It's surprisingly small and easy/cheap to produce.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Vulcan SpaceYards

Spoiler: Unknown Ship (click to show/hide)

You decide on a 2 pilot system for additional range, and a steel structure for some additional production. You also add some Ion engines for cheap and reliable in system transport. The system has significant mass dedicated to fuel, allowing it to operate for long times without supply and/or maintenance.

Research: all case studies (Ж 20,000)
Spoiler: Research (click to show/hide)

Loer Drone Departement

-The Rose defensive satellite is cheap. That's about anything that can be said about it. It can't move, has little to no armor, has but a single laser, and requires significant maintenance in order to power up everything.

- Research: (Ж 10,000)
--Develop advanced targeting protocols. No progress is made on this matter.
--Develop "Swarm AI": You think you can finalize this with Ж7.500

Frex Shipyards Ltd.

Spoiler:  Valkyrie (click to show/hide)

You design a fast, well armored medium Interceptor. It has decent firepower and size for it's class.

Research (Ж 10,000):
Create faster, lighter engines using ICF pulse technology  : You make no progress on this.
Research high-output plasma maneuvering thrusters : Nor on this.

Pax Shipping & Receiving , Inc

Spoiler: Surveyor (click to show/hide)

The Surveyor is very fast, and heavily armed for it's size. It's only lightly armored however, and the liquid engines have driven up the cost a little. Otherwise everything about the ship appears normal.

Research (15,000 units):
Active camouflage capable hulls: You make rapid progress here. While the camouflage is far from perfect, you think you can finish it with Ж5.000
Hacking capability (of both planet-side and ship-side systems) : You think you can make this work with another Ж20.000
Advanced Pilotless Navigation : No progress is made here.

Helios Defence Corp

- Design Work (25,000)

Spoiler: X-1 Interceptor (click to show/hide)

The X-1 Interceptor is fast, and decently armored. However, it's endurance is very limited. If it can finish of it's target soon after engaging, it will become a sitting duck.

- Research (15,000)(?)
:Stronger materials for cheaper cost and lighter weight : You develop ceramic armor. It's strong, cheap and relatively light. However, it takes long to produce. Ж15.000
:More powerful laser weaponry/plasma weaponry : You develop High power Laser Weaponry. Final development will cost just Ж 5.000
:A sort of "shielding" unit to help maintain hull integrity and provide extra protection over the armor of the craft (think force shield) : Your engineers make no progress on this
:do follow up research from the person researching fuel less alternatives into weaponry into "Gauss" weaponry, using strong magnetic coils Nah, you can't work of the results of research that hasn't happened yet.

Players

Spoiler:  Kavtavis Star Works (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Monolith Industries (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Vulcan Spaceyards (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Loer Drone Departement (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Frex Shipyards Ltd. (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Helios Defence Corp. (click to show/hide)

Facility upgrade cost:
      - Design Installation : 25.000   (Allows 2 designs to be made per year. Gets a bonus to actions )
      - Production Complex : 10.000 (Increases production by 10)
      - Research Facility : 25.000      (Allows 2 research actions  to be made per turn. Gets a bonus to actions)
      - Other facility upgrades: 25.000

((Focus on the X-1 then. Also, edited my action so that I research into Gauss weaponry, instead of using others.))

Attempt to add a long-range sensor package without compromising the design, and submit this the the Hologian Confederation for their anti-piracy patrols. Send the following advert (Set to Ride of the Valkyries, of course!). Set the sale price for Ж11,000

"Frex Shipyards is proud to announce the newest in smallcraft fighters, the Valkyrie! With the latest in liquid fuel propulsion, the Valkyrie is setting speed records across known space-your enemies can't run! With the latest in ship-detection sensors and software, the Valkyrie makes for an excellent ship hunter-your enemies can't hide! Armed with twin megawatt lasers and the latest in protective armor, this thing can dish out the damage-your enemies don't have a hope of Valhalla of winning! Buy Valkerie Today, and may your tomorrow be safer!"

Edit: Also, upgrade design facility one step

No. I suppose there are similarities, but I'm fairly certain angry birds doesn't let me charge into a battalion of knights with a car made of circular saws.

Name the new Corvette the "Nemesis", offer it to the Nemean empire as a counter-ship to the currently requested ship the Hologians are asking for.
Fund the research of both the compact drive and new materials, and enlarge the production facility to support the construction of another two Nemesis Corvettes at a 30% markup on the original production cost, with a willingness to lower it to 20% if it will secure the contract

The following message is sent to the Nemean Navy:
Salutations, Katavis Star works is proud to announce our first product: The Nemesis Corvette. Enough armour and firepower to take down an entire fighter squadron, And the strategic flexibility provided by mounting an FTL drive on-board. While certainly capable by being outrun by fighters, this ship works perfectly regardless, as either an escort, or a raider against freighters. While somewhat expensive, this ship is guaranteed to down double or triple it's cost in enemy fighters, and is easily produced to have a massive firepower advantage over most fighters as well. The all-laser loadout assists it in taking down small craft, and through volume of fire take down larger craft as well.

The price we are willing to charge is 18200 Credits per ship, around a 30% increase of the base price, but we are willing to lower it if need be.

We are confident you'll see the value and quality of our design, and choose to enter into a contract with us to provide the empire with a efficient and reliable anti-fighter ship.

((Hmm, are we able to upgrade the facilities, and fund the results of the preliminary research this turn?))

Focus on the Y1 Surveyor this turn please.  Also, very excited to be chosen!  Just curious, what method did you use?

An encoded message was recently received by the Nemean Navy:
"Greetings.  Our firm, Pax Shipping & Receiving, Inc., can offer effective fighter ships for use against the Hologian Confederation and associated satellite organizations at a deferred price.  We are also pleased to soon be able to offer you cyberwarfare capabilities to be purchased at an equally affordable price.  All ships have functions to prevent accountability (active cloaking) for easy proxy wars.  Glory to the Nemean Empire.  How shall we begin?  We are prepared to sell our first ship, a highly maneuverable fighter packed with firepower, the Y1 Surveyor, for a low 9,000 credits."

Turn:

Finish the camouflage and outfit the surveyor with it.
Finalize research on ship-side hacking, lay off on planet-side for now.  Outfit the surveyor with the results if not too costly.

Research: Advanced autonomous piloting and warfare (use proprietary code and hardware only for this, absolutely no open-source hardware or software)
Automated viral data extraction from secure and unsecured systems (spreads autonomously to unsecured and lightly secured systems via comms array, propagates via public comms)
