Work continues. Smoothing of the fort is well underway, sunberries confiscated from the elves are growing, and we caught a giant cave spider.
Ooh, a GCS! We can make a forgotten beast trap with that! We must capture the dark things that lurk below the earth and pit them against goblins!

Winter, year 5:

Giant cave spider is working in the silk farm for now, but an FB trap is still doable. In fact, the first FB just showed up--A pterosaur with a hunger for warm blood. It showed up already heavily scarred and dented, a sure sign that animal men are/were in the 3rd cavern.

Other than that, we've got a smattering of steel armor, and all melee dwarves have at least copper. Work on the mystery project has progressed, but it's not complete. I won't say what I was planning to do, just to see where future overseers take it.

I never got around to drafting a miner to use the artifact pick, so the next player should think about doing that.

And, as promised, here are some pictures:

I've claimed the turn, trying to get my bearings with the fort right now.

Spring of year 6:

I drafted our best miner to the military so he can put the banana pick to use. Had a hell of a time wrestling said pick away from some random dabbling miner. Even with the labor unassigned and the pick forbidden he still clung onto it.

I noticed the banana plots were looking neglected, turns out the only farming labor had been drafted previously. Assigned two random dwarves with nothing better to do as dedicated farmers.

Slaughtered a few puppies, we have an excessive amount. Put orders in for tables and chairs to furnish the new banana hall with.

A gremlin snuck in through the banana door from the caverns. Was mauled by puppies.

Bunch of dwarves fishing, no fishery for cleaning the fish. Built one to process the 200+ banana turtles we have and disabled fishing on all dwarves for now.

Sarvesh Kolerar withdraws from society and claims a leatherworking workshop. They create Sarmonom, a dog leather quiver, worth 15k bananas.

Set up some looms and clothesmaker workshops near the silk farm, they're currently going full banana.

Traded a couple serrated bananas for booze from the elves.

Summer of year 6:

We have a mayor now, just finished giving the needy bastard his bananas. He also has a thing for catapult parts, so I built a siege workshop near the silk farm to appease him.

Enlisted full squad of dwarves from the latest migration wave. They're set to be swordbananas. Orders to outfit them are in progress.

Worked on cleaning up and organizing the stockpiles and workshops around the fort.

Traded some more discs for everything useful the humans had. Mostly food and booze.

Zefon Okivutok has withdrawn for society and claimed one of the banana forges.

Edit: Eating a banana. Will finish up sometime tomorrow.

I changed the banana to return to the banana by default, since this is the only banana we're posting in.

Autumn of year 6:

Moody dwarf made an adamantine ring. Yay? Worth 1.1 million. Has an image of the banana pick, an actually useful artifact, on it.

And then dwarf fortress crashed.

He still made a ring. This time with loons and berries.

Building some walls/fortifications around our outside area. Working on getting some more banana plots up as we have a crap ton of seeds lying around.

Fort FPS is starting to drop quite a bit. Next overseer might want to try doing clean up on rotten bananas lying around, and/or reduce the population with something !!FUN!!.

Traded with the dwarven caravan for food, booze, and a few other bananas. Also acquired a single cat. Someone told the liaison we REALLY needed cheese last year, judging from the price and amount of it. :P

Winter of year 6:

Set up a hospital near the banana room, as I noticed we didn't have one. We don't have a safe source of clean water currently, something should probably be done about that.

A couple of dwarves are in the hospital currently with injuries. Not sure why. Probably fell off a banana or something.

Spoiler: That'll teach 'em (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Victory! (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: And dead. (click to show/hide)

The only somewhat significant changes in the fortress layout/infrastructure:

Dining hall is furnished. Enlarged banana stockpile and removed all other food stockpiles in the fort(except for seeds). Kitchen and still with barrel stockpiles are in the alcoves, others have been deconstructed. Hospital in lower right corner. String is set to zero in zone settings and there's a normal thread stockpile in there to prevent candy sutures.Additional bedrooms recently dug out above and below banana area. Lower ones still need to be furnished and designated.

Spoiler: Outside wall. (click to show/hide)

Levers for the bridges that I added are in the banana hall. They have notes on them.

Spoiler: Current status screen (click to show/hide)

There's a few more military than listed. I accidentally deactivated a banana while looking through the military screen(I fixed it).

Things that need doing(off the top of my head):

  • Easily accessible clean water source. There's some in the caverns, but it's quite the walk.
  • Military is still quite lacking. I'm not too good in that banana.
  • Outside walls aren't finished. Bananas can just come down the mountain side still.
  • There was a spike in idlers shortly before my turn ended (30+). Should give them something to do.
  • Puppies need to be culled again.

FYI: A dwarf just acquired a mood, and is currently dragging bananas to a craftdwarf workshop.

Save.

Edit: Almost forgot!

Spoiler: Best pokemon. (click to show/hide)
